911 ~ LET US NEVER FORGET!

911 ~ LET US NEVER FORGET!  I am up late tonight.  One of the things on my mind is that today is September 11.  That date will forever put a lump in my throat and a pit in my stomach.

None of us will ever forget the horrific images we were seeing on our TV screens.  It was so surreal and almost impossible to take in.  The senseless horror inflicted on innocent lives will forever haunt me.

I was at a mom's prayer group that morning nine years ago.  A group of mom's would gather once a week to pray for our children, their teachers, friends, etc.   A knock on our door startled us as we had never been interrupted before.

"You all might want to get home, something big is happening and it appears our country is under attack."  I shall never forget that message.  We all silently stood there, got into our cars and headed home.

I sat in front of our TV for hours watching the same footage over and over.  Why?  How?  What next?  These were all questions zooming through my brain.

So many lives were lost on that fateful day.  I honor those lives and their families today as I remember 911!  May this never happen again!

We will never forget. We will never forget our fellow Americans who lost their lives that day, the firefighters, the police officers, the brave people that chose to bring down the remaining plane, and the citizens trapped in the towers.

Please check out Don Wixom's blog that has the original footage of the attacks.

It help me to never forget......

@Paula - I know that there's going to be many 9/11 posts today. It's difficult for me to read. I dont think I can bring myself to do that. That's to say, I didn't even read what you had to say but I just wanted to tell you that I remembered, of course won't forget.

Paula, thanks for sharing this personal and moving experience. I think we all can relate. Where ever we were we reacted the same way. We were in Alameda at our boat and heard of the first news. We, like you sat before the TV not knowing what would happen next. It was truly horrific in all ways. We will never forget. It should be a National Day of Rememberance. We have a friend who was in one of the buildings. He had been working there as a guest. They left for lunch. While at lunch it all happened. He was in shock for many months as we all were. Thank you for this post!

I think we were all glued to the TV.  I remember seeing all those people covered in white ash.  Following the stories of families trying to get in touch with each other was heart wrenching.  After 9/11 I went to an event here where a gentlemen who had survived the twin tower attack attested to how he got out of the building through all the rubble!  He was a Christian and it was very moving to hear.  There will be alot of posts today, I had posted earlier in the week about our new memorial here I just love the ribbon of souls--how appropriate for so many who died that day.

Paula,

Of course our history has significantly changed, but I'm concerned that we've forgotten the important things out of this tragedy as we've become complacent with national security.  This might very well bring about another 9/11... Nonetheless, appreciate you remembering the events that have stuck with your life...God Bless America! g
