Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) September Morning Club Meetings

Building Strong Nonprofits: Successful Grant Writing
Monday, Sept 13; 3:30 pm – 5 pm
Wake Forest Chamber of Commerce, 350 S. White St.
The Wake Forest Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the INS Group, presents a workshop series open to members and non-members. If you are a beginning grant writer, this session will provide you with the essential tools needed to write a successful grant proposal from start to finish. $20 per person/per session or 4 sessions for $70. Basic and Beyond Fitness Class by Body and Soul

Tuesdays & Thursdays beginning Sept 14
Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church, 3329 Forestville Rd., Raleigh
Are you a senior citizen interested in exercising your body while you uplift your soul in a community church environment? Well, there is a class designed just for you!  The 10-week coed class is offered two days per week, and you can join us for both, or choose the day that fits your schedule the best.  Some of the greatest benefits of joining a Body and Soul exercise class are the fellowship you will enjoy with other seniors, the short term commitment, the minimal cost and the encouraging atmosphere.  Call Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church (919) 266-2957 for more information or to register for the fall session.  You'll get 50% the session fee for being new to the class.


Transit Workshop: Second Round of Meetings
Wednesday, Sept 15; 4 pm – 7 pm
Wake Forest Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St.
Triangle citizens are invited to participate in a second round of public workshops on future bus and rail options. These community meetings on the Triangle Regional Transit Program (TRTP) will offer citizens the opportunity to respond to a technical analysis of transit corridors under study in Wake, Durham and Orange counties. The workshops will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and each session will have two formal presentations at 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.  Information presented at each meeting will include each county’s projects as well as the region.


Firing Range Training
Thursday, Sep 16; 8 am - 9 pm
Police Department Firing Range, behind Flaherty Park Community Center
Residents in the area are advised that the Wake Forest Police Department will conduct firing range training at the police department firing range, located behind the Flaherty Park Community Center. The firing range is utilized by Wake Forest Police officers who require instruction and practice in order to obtain current certification in the use of firearms. Princess and the Pea
Thursday, Sept 16; 2:30 pm and 4 pm

Rags to Riches presents a theatrical performance of the popular children’s classic. Shows are co-sponsored by the Wake Forest Parks & Recreation Department and United Arts of Raleigh and Wake County. Free. (919) 435-9560.


Fish Fry
Friday, Sept 17; 11 am – 7 pm
Wake Forest United Methodist Church, 905 S. Main St.
The Wake Forest United Methodist Church Men 2010 Fish Fry offers $8 plates that include flounder, slaw, boiled potatoes, and hush puppies. Dine in, take out, drive through, or delivery is available. For delivery of five or more plates, call (919) 556-2239 . This event raises money for the men to build handicap access ramps at little or no cost to those in need. Additionally, the United Methodist Men support over 20 local charitable organizations serving our community.  www.wakeforestumc.org


Buddy Run
Saturday, Sept 18; registration at 7 am, run begins at 8 am
Heritage Wake Forest behind Walgreens
The Buddy Run is a USA Track & Field certified 5k course held in Heritage Wake Forest. Following the 5K, a non-competitive 1-mile family walk/run begins. All children 6 & under are invited to do the Itty-Bitty Buddy Dash taking place after the 1-mile walk/run. Proceeds from the race will go to Backpack Buddies, a local organization providing children with backpacks of food over the weekend. Food items appropriate for these backpacks will also be collected on race day. Details can be found at www.milesintosmiles.com. 


Southeastern Seminary Multi-Family Yard Sale

Saturday, Sept 18; 7:00 am – 11:30 am
SEBTS Prince Facilities Management Building parking lot
The Seminary Housing Office is sponsoring a multi-family yard sale on Saturday, September 18 at the parking lot in front of the Prince Facilities Management Building (located behind the smoke stack on the corner of Stadium Dr. and Wingate St.). In the spring, there were over 20 families selling items. This fall, in addition to all the people selling personal items, the Seminary will be having a surplus asset sale of filing cabinets, desks, chairs, etc. Everyone in the community is invited to attend. Good Neighbor Day
Sunday, Sept 19; 1 pm – 4 pm
Holding Park, 133 W. Owen Ave.
This family-oriented celebration promises something for everyone with live entertainment by local musicians, a disc jockey, free food, free activities such as face painting and a balloon artist, prizes and recreational activities for children and adults. A special part of this year's Good Neighbor Day will be the presentation of the first-ever "Good Neighbor of the Year" Award. Sponsored by the Wake Forest Human Relations Council. (919) 996-9945
