Do you want to eliminate the junk mail that crams your mailbox each day?

Many consumers don't realize it but a large portion of the junk mail that is received on a daily basis can be stopped.  The unwanted credit card offers, insurance offers, mortgage offers and general junk mail that you receive is the result of the credit bureaus selling your information to whomever is willing to pay for it.

There is a quick and easy way to eliminate this unwanted junk mail.  I direct my customers to visit www.optoutprescreen.com.  Junk mail is optional but unless you request not to receive it, you will.  The three credit bureaus Equifax, TransUnion and Experian are all required by the federal government to participate in this opt out process.  By filling out this request online you will automatically be exempt from junk mail for a period of 5 years.   The site also has an option that allows you to mail in your request as well.  A mailed request permanently opts you out from receiving junk mail.

I did this opt out option a few years ago myself and the amount of junk mail I receive has dramatically decreased.

Keith,

Good tip, thank you. I first thought this was about the  e-mails, because it is so annoying.

But I would check the link, as I do not need all that stuff coming to us, which goes to the gargage right away

I was about to sign on but that's pretty private information they ask for. I'll try to keep up with the trash.

Keith... I have to agree with Jon.  I thought at first it was a way of eliminating junk coming to e-mail. However registering for this will help save trees and the planet... I'm all for it.  Thanks for posting this blog.

Hi Keith I need someone to opt me out of a zillion junk emails that come my way.  I'm thinking about hiring my kids to hit the unsubscribe on all of my emails I don't want to receive anymore.  Unfortunately, at this point of my life I'm grateful for a mailbox full of junk vs. bills.  Have a fantastic rest of your weekend.

The reason they ask for the SS#s is because this will eliminate junk mail that comes as a result of the sale of your information from the credit bureau.  Information such as unwanted credit card offers, insurance offers and financial offers.  These offers are based on your credit rating which the credit bureaus gladly sell.  When it comes to the credit bureaus we are all just SS#s first and names second.
