The day wasn't about Real Estate today. It was about being part of something to give back to the community. It has been planned for only a week for I was in charge of Clean-Up Day at Farley Elementary School in Huntsville, Alabama. My kids' school.
The day started off fast and busy. I have 4 children~ages 12, 10, 8 and 5. My youngest just started kindergarten there and my oldest is in Middle School (Junior High for all you old school people like me). We have been a part of this wonderful school since my oldest started Kindergarten. I had to be at the school at 8:30am. I got all our tools, water, etc. and headed out with my daughters (the boys wanted to stay back with Dad-probably to play X-Box). Off we went.
This is a tree we planted for my son's Kindergarten teacher Ms. Jinny Peeler on Teacher Appreciation Day at the end of his Kindergarten year.
When we got there we were greeted by our Principal, Donna White and teachers Linda Kennedy (who is my Daughter's 3rd grade teacher and is wonderful) and Molly Johnson (who is my son's 5th grade teacher and is just as wonderful). They were already busy working, pulling weeds, treating ant hills, picking up trash, etc.
I had so much help and want to give a shout out to the following amazing people:
Michelle Shell, our PTA President, and her whole family. They did so much!!
Crista Meeks, sorry about your clippers, I will try to find them in the grass.
Mr. Downey (Cooper's Dad), WOW, you did an AMAZING job edging!
~Our Volunteers for Unity Day (today) were:
Nancy Beason from Faith Presbitierian Church;
Jill Johnson and her two very helpful children Hannah and Grant from First Christian Church (FCC); and,
Mr. Topper Birney who sits on the Board of Education and NOT in our district! He was also with First Christian Church (FCC). He is an amazing man and it was my pleasure to meet him and all the other volunteers. They did an AMAZING job in Gary's Garden (a garden dedicated to a little boy who passed away from cancer many, many years ago-yes, this is still being taken care of)!
This is just half of Gary's Garden
Well, after having been bitten or stung on my lip (yes, I did look like Angelina Jolie for a while until my husband brought me benedryl~lol), both hands filled with blisters (I wasn't wearing gloves) and almost trimming into a wasp nest (Sorry about leaving the bushes half way done~those pesky little things were not going to let me get any closer), we were done!! The school looks BEAUTIFUL and the rain was moving in...
My truck got a little more use than usual:
