Nicky V's Pizzeria and Patio, a New Restaurant in NW Albuquerque

By

I went back to Nicky V's Pizzeria and Patio last night, so I thought I'd drop by to update my old post about the best pizza place in Northwest Albuquerque. Actually, calling it a pizza place doesn't do it justice because there are many delightful menu choices which are both creative and delicious.

Last night we had some old favorite appetizers, plus we tried a new pizza, the Milan. The Milan has Gorgonzola and Fontina cheeses, mushrooms, carmelized onions and pine nuts. Sounds a little different at first I know, but once I picked up a piece it was love at first bite!

If you live in NW Albuquerque and you think life is too short to eat plain old boring pizza, please stop by and give Nicky V's a try (this would be a great place to eat during balloon fiesta).

Nicky V's Pizzeria and Patio

Tonight I discovered a new restaurant in NW Albuquerque, Nicky V's Neighborhood Pizzeria and Patio. Actually, I learned about it from an office mate and fellow AR contributor Valerie Almanzar who checked in there last week on Foursquare, but I finally decided to check it out for myself.

There have been two other pizza restaurants in this location over the last two or three years, both were called NYPD, but neither one lasted more than 12 months before they closed their doors.

I loved the first place, NYPD, that served NY style pizza. They had Sinatra gangster photos on the walls and they cranked out Frank's classics. The pizza was OK, just a notch above Dominos.

However, the newest incarnation of a NW Albuquerque pizza restaurant at this location is Nicky V's, and it's way better than your typical pizza joint!

Bruschetta and Beers

It was a beautiful New Mexico late summer night, so my wife and I sat outside on the patio.

We love to sample things so we started out with several appetizers including pita points and hummus. The hummus included an incredibly delicious cucumber relish on the side and some feta cheese.

Then we moved on to anti pasto with peppers, arugula, salami and baby mozarrella, which was fantastic and followed up with beers from Albuquerque's Marble Brewery (always a New Mexico favorite). Somewhere along the way we also had the Fried Ravioli which was fabulous!

We were already getting full, but we had to at least have a few bites of pizza, but before we ordered I wanted to see if they had a real pizza oven.

Not only did they have a real pizza oven, but it's a cool looking big brick oven.

I asked the guys if they knew how to toss the dough or not and they gave me a quick demonstration:

Besides great appetizers and excellent pizza Nicky V's has some great looking salads and a bar as well.

We enjoyed our first visit to the patio at Nicky V's Pizzeria and plan to go back soon. I'm really excited to have a great new restaurant in NW Albuquerque. It's just one more reason to consider moving to NW Albuquerque or Rio Rancho. Search Real Estate for Sale in Albuquerque NM or Homes for Sale in Rio Rancho NM.

I imagine that it is hard to be successful with pizza when there are all those wonderful New Mexico restaurants - and I still remember the bakery near the Air Force base that sold a great cherry pie with chilis - Maybe this Christmas on my way to Santa Fe I can find that bakery again!

Rich, I am glad to hear that your evening at Nicky V's went well.  Nicole and I will have to thank Valerie for the referral.  You might want to consider linking your blog review to http://www.urbanspoon.com/e/restaurant_link/1527088 and get more eyes on it.  Thanks again.

Great localism post Rich. Now, I am telling hubby that we are having pizza tonight instead of cooking!

Lise, Even I get tired of red and green chili after awhile! I think red chili cherry pie sounds fabulous. I'm a big fan of green chili brownies and red chili carmel popcorn!

Larry and Sheila, I don't think Nicky V's delivers. The pizza was fantabulous and should never see the inside of a cardboard box.

Gordon and Cherisse, This is not the Springs, when we get a restaurant that has good food I want to shout it out!

Greg, I just added my review to Urban Spoon. That's pretty cool and adding the link couldn't have been easier. I'm hoping, of course, that the urban spoon link is a do follow link!

Lori, Whatever you do just say no to Dominoes!

Wow does that sounds great!  And I'm like you - find a great local place and shout it from the rooftops!!  Yep - I'm putting that on my list should I get back up to Albuquerque!

Emmary, I went back to Nicky V's today and picked up a gift card-courtesy of the owners of Nicky V's-for my clients who are closing this week. How sweet is that?
