The Guitar Center in Hollywood, CA

By
Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties 01238708

The Guitar Center in Hollywood, CA is the flagship Guitar Center Store and a museum at the same time. It is hard to believe that in 1964 the Guitar Center started and today there are hundreds of stores across the entire United States.

They have one of the most impressive memorabilia on display. Recently I saw the world premier of a new Television Show called "The Guitar Center Sessions "where they interview musicians who have made it in the industry. They are in front of a live audience of fans and want to be musicians in an intimate setting. Peter Gabriel was their first interview subject.

Then there is the "Rock walk" at the Guitar Center, where you will see hand imprints of the Doobie Brothers as an example and icons like Frank Zappa's hands on the sidewalk.

Over the years the area has become known as "guitar Row" There is "Valdez' Guitar" at 7420 Sunset Blvd. Then there is" High Voltage" where they have vintage and rare guitars. There is a bustling trade of guitars going on in this small patch of Sunset Blvd.

Nearby, there is a Ralphs Grocery store which has been nicknamed "Rock ‘n' Roll Ralphs". This is because it is frequented by the" who is who" of music and movie industry. If you are into watching, spotting celebrities, this is the place to hang out.

Next time you drive on Sunset Blvd and you see a long line outside the Guitar Center, then you know that someone who is now famous in the industry is there. More than likely they are there for either an " a  CD release & signing" or are  doing a Session for the Guitar Center.

If you want more information:   The Guitar Center Hollywood is located at 7425 Sunset Blvd. Hollywood, CA 90046 or visit their website at   http://www.guitarcenter.com

Endre - good post and I did not know that was the original guitar center. I have been to the one in Fountain Valley many times. I will have to visit this one!

I custom ordered my current drum set from the Guitar Center in Rockville, MD. I'm like a kid in a candy store when I go there. What should be a 15 minute visit for sticks turns into 90 minutes.   :)

Endre - Nice to wake up to a feature on Sunday AM? It is nice to go to a place that has all the old memorabilia and old guitars. I had a good friend that used to work at one of these centers. He had a blast.

Nice...we got a Guitar Center here in Portland, Maine 5 years ago...it's a great place to go and kill a few hours when I want to play some different guitars (kid in a candy store comes to mind)...I got to meet Frank Zappa in 1980 and sat side-stage while he played the Cumberland County Civic Center...I miss him on the music scene, and often wonder what he'd be up to if he were still around.

Endre I believe we have a Guitar Center here also.  I don't have a musical bone in my body, but it would be interesting to find out if we have one.

Previous to reading this I would no sooner go into a place like that than bury my head in the sand. Which is what I must have been doing all along, (keeping my head in the sand) Had no idea that it could be interesting to boot. Sounds like great history lessons can be learned if one pays attention. Great post.

Hi Endre -- Very cool.  I once had a friend who played a double-neck Emerson and he could jam like no one I have ever seen.  I tried the guitar for 6 months and realized I would forever be banned to the garage, with soundproofing and locked from the outside once I entered! lol

Robert, I loved your Alter Ego on the comments, I thought it was me in my earlier days:)))

Chris - I had a friend who had about 150 guitars, he had a room just for his guitars, I never heard him play, probably with good reason:)))

Kathryn, Sturbridge, when I was in High School we made a trip to the Village, still there??
