Last night the Tomato completed deliberations over the Off Topic/Humor Category for the Carnival of ActiveRain.  Like the rest of the hosting panel, The Tomato was faced with a difficult decision and some very fine reading material.  So, without further ado, fresh from the Tomato's vine...

(drum roll please...)

The winner is Linda Davis for The Good Old Days, Linda's reminiscence about high interest rates (illustrated by short skirts), long gas lines and agents prequalifying buyers certainly inspired a lot of commentary.  From what I gather, most of the agents who lived through the "Good Old Days" are glad that they are over.

Congratulations Linda!

Folks, that concludes the Inaugural Edition of the Carnival of ActiveRain.  Thanks for tuning in.

This was a great post, Linda. What I loved about it was the way in which we all got into the topic and posted our little hearts out. It was a great escape, and congratulations on the win!

87  This was 1986 but you might be able to see the feathered hair, garish shirt, and general "devil-may-care" attitude that came with no cell phone, no e-mail, no fax machine.

Oh, that's right..I didn't have a job then!

Hmmm. I started high school in 1979.  I think Brian is close to my age judging by his attire and hair style...

Linda.... this was funny.  And congrats on the win.

In regards to what you stated about the fact that loan officers didn't come into play back then....that you qualified your own buyers..  Well, 2 programs back then.... 30 yr fixed and 15 yr fixed... lol  Now...over 400 loan programs.

 Again....  good job and congratulations.

Brian..... that was you back then?   wow....

We bought our first home in 89 and got a deal/break on the interest rate.  it was only 8.5%!  We were thrilled.  The home we bought had been on the market for almost a year.  nice post, good job.
