"Lose Weight Fast for Surgery" Diet

By
Real Estate Agent with www.LorainCountyHomeSales.com

I was given this diet by a friend who needed to lose weight before a surgery. It claims one can lose up to 52 pounds in 2 1/2 months, but I wonder just how "safe" it is for those not having any surgeries - just wanting to lose. Has anyone heard of this or have any thoughts?

Breakfast: 1/2 grapefruit or 100% juice unsweetened, 2 eggs (any style), 2 slices of bacon

Lunch: 1/2 grapefruit or 100% juice unsweetened, salad with any dressing, meat (any style - any amount)

Dinner: 1/2 grapefruit or 100% juice unsweetened, meat (any style, any amount, may substitute fish), vegetable, any green or red (cooked in butter or any seasoning) or salad as above.

Bedtime snack: glass of tomato juice or skim milk

Special Instructions: At any meal, you may eat until you are full. Do not eliminate anything from the diet, especially don't skip bacon at breakfast or salads. It's the combination of foods that burn fat. Grapefruit is important because it is a catalyst that starts the burning. Cut down on coffee since it affects the insulin balance that hinders the burning process. Don't eat inbetween meals. Do not eat desserts, breads or white vegetables or sweet potatoes. All soft drinks need to be diet and caffeine free, water is best. You may not have white onions, potatoes or celery. You MAY have red onions, bell peppers, radishes, cucumbers, broccoli, green onions, spinach, leaf lettuce, cabbage, carrots and tomatoes.

IMPORTANT: Stay on the diet for 12 days and stop this diet for 2 days, then begin again.

You can lose up to 10 pounds in 10 days.

Any thoughts???

I'm very skeptical about bacon. I'd absolutely stay away from any pork.

It is very important what we feed our bodies. Think about it: poor diet is the biggest contributor to early death, more than physical inactivity, smoking and alcohol combined.

Again, I am no doctor or in the medical field, but was given this "from" a doctor who had recommended this diet before having a surgery where it was important for quick weight loss. This was about 15 yrs ago, I am sure there are safer ways now - does anyone else have another plan that works?

I am familiar with this diet. Several of my family members are nurses and this is what a doctor has given to patients needing to shed pounds for surgery. I've done this and it works... and you're not usually hungry between meals. I was looking for this. Thanks for posting!

You are welcome, Olivia - and appreciate the heads up that this is still information being used to shed pounds quickly.  (where recommended if quick weight loss needed for surgery).

I did this one in the early 2000's. It is the mayo clinic diet. Short term and does work. Not meant for long term. Amount of weight depends on current weight. It is for obese people. Much watch out if you are taking medication. The grapefruit will reduce the affectiveness of certain medications.

Is it possible to melt away one to two pounds of stubborn body fat every single day?
It sounds insane, but according to the scientific proof and the thousands who have already done it themselves using this secret” the answer is YES.
You will never guess how it’s done... (Hint: It’s NOT about taking sketchy pills or killing
yourself at the gym).
That’s right and it’s important to know that this isn’t about some magic weight loss shake or the calories out-calories in model that the medical community has been
trying to brainwash us with for decades.
Not at all.
It’s about a simple yet potent method developed and perfected by Brian Flatt - who is a health & nutritionist coach, and also a personal trainer who has been in the fitness world for over a decade.

Hi, many people cannot have grapefruit due to taking various medications. I googled a substitute and came across this: drink a glass of water with 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda instead or you can substitute oranges or mandarin oranges for your grapefruit. It's a good ides to check with your doctor for any interactions with medications. I'm going to try this diet, I'm excited.

First I want to commit on the bacon for breakfast there are Many many more healthy fats to choose from that aren't full of artery clogging saturated fats and while a diet with 30% fat (30%protien and 40% carbohydrates seems optimal) does help you stay full you can easily cook your egg in heart healthy olive oil or have  a salad with avocado and the second problem with this diet plan is that it's a PROVEN FACT that artificial sweeteners kill the good bacteria in your stomach leading to WEIGHT GAIN so stay away from diet sodas!  You want something to replace your high calorie low nutrient soda with then drink water with a little monk fruits or stevia sweetened lemon juice or some other juice.  Just don't go crazy with the juice!  Also the grapefruit juice burning fat has been very throughly DEBUNKED not that a few serving of healthy fruits aren't a great choice but you can certainly have berriesor an apple and get the same effects of grapefruit and it's much better than ANY TYPE OF JUICE including tomato!  One of the best diet plans that does work is the low calorie diet where you eat around 1200 calories per day for a woman and 1600 calories per day for a man. The very best diet for rapidly losing weight is Inttermittit fasting there are two types one you  fast for 2 days and eat a low calorie healthy diet for the other 5, think Mediterranean diet,  the other you fast 16 hours per day and are only allowed to eat Healthy CALORIE RESTRICTED meals during 8 hours... you can't gouge yourself for 8 hours and expect weight loss with any diet plan!  I have lost 150 pounds and am still losing.  Due to health problems and steroids/medication I became extremely obese to where I was literally suffocating under the fat. It took a lot of work and I would suggest if it's possible that you opt for bariatric surgery,  I've known a few people who have gone that route and they have been better off than me, but maybe they would have been no matter what because they were just over eating!  I was having steroids by IV and other drugs that caused weight gain and bone destruction so who can say! I'm currently trying to lose more weight because my knees are being damaged by my autoimmune diseases and they put me on a medication that caused 16 pounds of weight gain in 6 weeks, I've lost 4 of it in 2 weeks of intermittent fasting with 2 days of no food and 5 days eating a Mediterranean low 1200 calorie diet. I can't get out of bed due to pain so I'm very sure that you're going to be able to lose more weight than I am!  Good luck and don't depend upon outdated information about weight loss because finding out that the micro organism (microbiome) is responsible for your weight was a game changing discovery and you need to eat to make it healthier and diversified,  that means non digestible fiber especially from high fiber foods. Fiber supplements have very little impact on weight loss unfortunately! My next suggestion  is that you log all of your food in an app like my fitness pal for example  or simply write  down everything you eat and plan out your meals  ahead of time! Stick with vegetables,  fruits and I personally have stopped using animal products there are so many healthy tasty vegan replacements and since I'm allergic to dairy and meat increases inflammation it just makes sense to reduce inflammation since inflammation drives obesity! If you have heart disease please don't eat a high fat diet!  Consider going on a plant based diet with no more than 10% fat and read this research study!
