I wanted to share this post that really sums it up on todays inspirational addicts.
If they work for you, great! but if I have to think about it, it's lost in translation.
NOW, HAVE YOU LEARNED SOMETHING TODAY!
TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!!!
Seriously? What does that even MEAN? Of COURSE today is the first day of the rest of my life! I mean, as opposed to WHAT? The third Sunday of the rest of my life? The fifth day of the seventh month of the forty-sixth year of the rest of my life? Naturally, the phrase is intended to summon forth hope and inspiration--I get that--but it just sounds so ridiculous that I have a hard time taking it seriously. It's like saying something in a different context like, "If you believe you can do it, then it's something you believe in!" Well, no kidding, genius!
Couldn't we use something a little less obvious and a little more original? I don't know...maybe something like, "Today is going to be a changing day in your life!" Wait...Dr. Phil says that. Okay, what about, "Today is the day the Lord has made, let us...no, that's the preacher thing. Crap. How about, "...A day that shall live in infamy!" OH ALL RIGHT!!!
