Is There Anything You Can't Find at Wal-Mart?
It seems like everytime I go to Wal-Mart, they've added something new to their long list of products and services. You can get groceries and a haircut, go to the bank, get your eyes tested and purchase new glasses. You can pick up a prescription and a bag a fertilizer all in one stop. When a new big ticket item comes on the market, I just wait for a awhile and, sure enough, Wal-Mart will eventually carry it at a lower price.
Wal-Mart just announced a "first" for them. They are now going to be in the cell phone service business. They've sold cell phones and cell phone services like Verizon and Sprint for quite some time. However, now they are selling service under their own brand name. They call it Wal-Mart Family Mobile and it costs about $45 per month. Unlimited texting and voice mail is included in that price. If you need more than one phone, you can purchase additional lines for $25 each. Did I mention no contract?
Wal-Mart won't have its own towers but will be using the T-Mobile network.
Now for the downside - no data plans or other smart phone amenities; something tech-savvy and business people can't seem to live without.
There are some things you can't find there - like certain product choices and lots of product knowledge. I'd rather pay a little more and have good service.
WOW, it never ends. Roll em back Wal-Mart! I go there for all of the daily household items (shampoo, soap, etc) but some things are better purchased elsewhere....like specialty items. Thanks for sharing!
Pam, Pretty interesting that Walmart is handling phone service too. It really doesn't ever end!
Hi Edward and Celia - I can see the headline now - "Wal-Mart Takes Over the World". ;D
Hi Alan - There are many things I don't buy at Wal-Mart - preferring quality over cost.
Hi Christa - If your current plan doesn't have a good family, then I guess Wal-Mart just may have the answer, huh?
Hi Jami - I agree with you. Every once in a while I used to go to the Dollar Store for incidentals. Then, I saw a piece on the news that said you couldn't be sure about what was really in some of those products. So, I use Wal-Mart for the little things and hope for the best.
Pamela...we shop Wal-Mart for household, some food, RX [great $$],
some household & other items [not clothing yet] including phones, some electronics; when we purchased phones [1 pay-as-go, & 1 AT&T] we had AT& T as our service & still so do. Cannot see us changing to another service at this point. As for all the 'Techie' apps-we don't use them & don't miss them. For us Phones are for sending / receiving calls. [I know, we are way to set in our ways] Good post.
Have a good week.

WOW Pamela, I will check out our local Wal-Mart..that interesting to expand in mobile market when the leaders are trying to keep their edge.
I think I am the only person around that does not have a Wal-Mart close by... Funny!
Pamela, that family plan would be great for those who need it for personal use (just calls and texting) but those with smartphone and data needs should probably stick to the big 4 - AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless. Thanks for the info! :)
Leilani
P.S. There are a lot of things I can't find at Wal-Mart, but I have to admit that I love buying my shampoo and conditioner there (Aussie and Suave Coconut) because it's no different than the brand names but it's only a fraction of the cost! :)
Hi Barb and Sal - It may not be for everyone. I have a Smart Phone that I don't know I got along without before. Thanks for your comments.
Hi Ritu - Free enterprise, I guess. It's sad to see Mom and Pop stores squeezed out - but that's another topic.
Hi Chris - No Wal-Mart in Cupertino? I live in Podunk, AZ and we have one!
Hi Bob & Leilani - I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of retirees on this plan.
