Morbid ..yes. But please understand I just found out about the passing of a wonderful lady, 87 years old that was our Realtor in Ocean City NJ. She was the best of the best. As her clients we trusted her, we confided in her and she was always on our Christmas card and birthday card list becasue of the way we felt about her....as our Realtor. We felt she only wanted the best for us and was looking out for our best interest. She felt like a family member and we always included her in our many gatherings at our house in NJ...because we liked her.

This lady would call us from time to time, not to sell/list, just to see what was going on and how we were doing. She would ask about the kids, where we were going on vacation next and when would she see us nezt. When I became a Realtor, I remembered her calls and that's what I do now. I loved her calls and I hope my clients feel the same way. I try to treat all my "contact list" like family. Some are easier than others but I don't let that dissuade me. Since when did we like ALL of our family members?

I went to a Social Network Marketing/Media class today (in Naples FL) and the number one reason people will use one Realtor over another is because they liked them! Wow...what a concept.

Are you doing the things that allow people to like you? Do you make your clients feel special.... liked? Will your clients miss you?

Hi Lynn:

I'm sorry to hear about your friend and Realtor passing but your post was great.  You hear so many things about how you should contact past clients to see if they know anyone buying or selling.  But your way of doing is better.  Just call to see how they are.  If you do this, your clients usually think of you anyway when someone they know wants to buy or sell a home and you let them know you're thinking of them.

Carla: For some strange reason my clients become friends just like the many Realtors we had with each of our houses we bought before I became a Realtor. Were we lucky? I don't know but we are still friends, really good friends, with 3 of the  5 houses we purchased over the years. I guess I just don't know any better than to be a friend first and then a Realtor.

Great post, Lynn.  I'm sorry for your loss.  I think you must also be top of mind.  Someone may like you more than someone else, but they haven't spoken to you in a year so they forgot about you.  THanks!
