Creative Response To A Simple Job Posting Ad On Craigslist

Services for Real Estate Pros

One of the Realtors I work with needs two sign holders for a special open house this weekend.  This evening I posted a simple ad to craigslist asking those interested to respond with their contact information and a short explanation on why they would be good for the job.  I quickly received a creative response that made me laugh and is so like a Eugene, OR resident:

I feel I would be excellent for this position, because I have an extensive background in the field of holding things. I started holding things at a very young age, and have continued to hold things to this day. Over the course of my life, I have held a variety of objects, of differing sizes, shapes, and weights, and for an almost immeasurable quantity of time spans, ranging from just a few seconds all the way up to many hours at a time.

I can also hold things that are intangible, such as my breath and your attention. I have held things in a variety of weather conditions, both pleasant and inclement, and in an array of geographic locations, from as far north as Alaska, to as far south as Arizona.  I have held things in many different work environments, including, but not limited to business offices, outdoor landscaping, retail, and food service.

I have also held things in my off hours, for recreational purposes, such as video game controllers, cans of beer, cups of coffee, and that cute girl from 8th period's books on the way home from school. You could, without exaggerating, say that I have been training my entire life for a position such as sign holding. I am, if anything, significantly overqualified in all related fields.

Would you hire this person?  He definitely chose a unique way to separate himself from the many others that will respond to the post!

Heck, yeah I'd hire him!  I love a sense of humor and an ability to communicate it.  If he's as much fun in person as he is in his response, I think he's well on the way to becoming the sign holder guru of Eugene, OR!

He may end up being the worst sign holder in Eugene, but his sense of humor in the e-mail communication warrants the opportunity to find out!  The decision isn't mine, but I forwarded the e-mail to the Realtor with my positive comments.

YES, HIRE HIM! This is the kind of person that will not only hold the sign is the kind of person that sounds like they will have fun doing it and make people want to come to your open house.

OK Rick, I have to ask - was he hired?  I agree with the others - I certainly would have hired him.  And interviewed him for possibly another position as well - writing!  That was brilliant!

Since he's been training his entire life for a position such as sign holding he had to be hired.  Unfortunately it was a misty, wet weekend so he really had to earn his money.  He definitely has potential as a creative writer!

Yes, absolutely because does that person not qualify to 'hold things', but they also know how to capture your attention and 'sell' you!
