Silly Signs - From the Absurd to the Ridiculous

Silly traffic sign

Oh, heaven help us!  This is a new sign to let drivers know which way to turn to catch the B. C. Ferry, and which way to go to continue on up to Whistler.  If you were a tourist, would you know which way to go?!!

Silly signs

Ok, someone got creative creating this sign!

Silly signs

This sign is located in Mosquito Creek Park in North Vancouver, right by a wonderful swimming hole for dogs - or at least, that's how it has developed.  Unfortunately, a few dogs get a little over-zealous, and can't stop barking.  The neighbours in the area have complained, hence this sign to please keep Fido quiet.  Of course, this particular sign seems to be aimed at French poodles...

Silly signs

A wonderful use of homonyms, don't you think?

These are a few of the silly signs we have here in North Vancouver.  Do you have any funny signs in your area?  If you do, tell us about them - or better yet, come back and post a photo!

I love the "Oh Dear". The first one is a prime example of "city planners on acid". What were they thinking with designing streets like that,

Very funny and very confusing!  I have never heard the expression of Dogs Calmed and would not have known what it meant.

Joshua - I agree - someone really put some thought into some of these signs.

Valerie - Oh, Marine Drive on the way to Horseshoe Bay is a hairy drive - all those twists and turns, narrow streets, and cliffs - not for the faint of heart.  Oh dear, indeed!

Laura - Every time I drive by that first sign, I just have to laugh.  Can't help it.

Shar - Oh yeh, they were smoking something funny that day!

Sharon - That is an odd turn of phrase, isn't it?  I think all of this is to grab one's attention and make them stare at the sign and really pay attention.  Far more effective than "Keep Dogs Quiet!" and a little more friendly, too.  I think people are far more likely to obey a sign or to do something when they're asked nicely.

Ty - Oh my, duck and run for cover.

Chris - Glad I squeezed a giggle out of you...

Diane - There's actually a series of the "deer" signs.  Another one said "Yes, dear, a deer".

Barbara - Oh, now we're voting, are we?  Fine - #1 it is!

Hi Sally... I love a good pun (and even some bad ones) so the "dear" sign was definitely my favorite!

David - I knew you wouldn't disappoint me.  Great signs.  Love the last one - "really, it won't hurt".  Too funny.  "Speeding tickets ahead" would definitely make me slow down!  I know, truth be told, the first sign is my favourite too.  It's just too ridiculous - and they are being serious!

As for the first picture, I do understand it.  But I agree that driving at 100 km/h on the route 99 might be a little tricky.
