Coffee and Ice Cream in Newtown, PA - Zebra Striped Whale on State Street in Newtown Borough

My friend and I have been trying to get our kids together ever since I helped her relocate to Newtown, PA earlier this year.  As the kids settle into the school year, we were finally able to narrow down a time.  I suggested taking the kids to ice cream at The Zebra Striped Whale on State Street in Newtown Borough.

It's the perfect place for a quick playdate. 

Sugar for the kids, caffeine for the Moms.  Pretty much a home run, right?

There are lots of great ice cream flavors, fun cones for the kids, and apparently a fun mix-in bar where they make "whirlwinds."  (I'm kinda glad I didn't see that, actually.  It would have been hard to resist.)

For the Moms - there's plenty of caffeine to suit any taste, and I can vouch for the iced coffee.  I drink buckets of it, so I'm a good judge!  

The inside of The Zebra Striped Whale is comfy, eclectic without being so eclectic that you're afraid to let your kids loose in it, and has two seating areas.  You can people watch on State Street out the front window, or sit at the tables or comfy couches in the back.

Once the kids had finished eating/wearing their ice cream, they headed off to look at the children's picture book library, giving us a few extra minutes to talk.  

Family owned and operated, The Zebra Striped Whale has won "Best of Bucks" awards for both 2008 and 2009.  It's a perfect spot to hit up for a cone while walking State Street in Newtown Boro,   for a casual business meeting over some good coffee, or even to settle down with a laptop, coffee, and use their free wi-fi.

Heather I would drive a long way for good ice cream, in this case I'll take your word for it ...but If I'm near your neighborhood...I promise I'll try the ice cream and an ice coffee.

It's such a weird combo - ice cream and coffee.  Every time I think of it, my teeth hurt :)  Great for hitting up both the sweet tooths and the caffeine fiends after dinner!
