What would you do if your clients house caught on fire? a second time..

I can't even imagine that this situation could occur twice...  I have a friend whose house caught on fire. Bad news that nobody was home to possibly catch it in time, but Great news that nobody was home to get hurt - at least physically. Since the fire, the wife moved into a property that they had, out of state, and the husband stayed behind in a condo while the home was put back in shape.

When almost to completion, we put the house on the market, and of course, got every neighbor inside to look at it. More great news, a friend from down the street was interested and asked me to list their home, to prepare to make an offer on the home previously burned. After some back and forth, their home was sold and the deal was struck with the home, now in NEW order. This closing happened in May 2007.

I am sure that it is known that a great storm blew through the North and Northwest Suburbs of Chicago this past Thursday, and well, can you believe it???? A downed power wire fell onto the roof of the (previously burned) house and somehow ignited the gas line that fed the FIREPLACE in the master bathroom. That was the end of living in their brand new home. Luckily Dad was home to catch the problem before it ruined the entire property and even worse, hurt the kid downstairs on the computer with the headphones on..(who may never even noticed the smoke smell from two floors up)

Not too keen on gas fireplaces in master suites anymore. Yes, the previous owner liked pampering, but that is just not worth it.

Has anything like this happened to anyone else?

Wow..... full disclosure, that house is cursed.  No one would buy it after two hits :^0

That's just weird.  And of course a shame.
