Camp Pendleton is celebrating the announcement of a new hospital which will be breaking ground the early part of 2011, the hospital is going to be located 10 miles from the front gate of Camp Pendleton--off Harbor. This facility will treat troops and military retirees at Camp Pendleton, adding to a building boom transforming the base into one of the most modern in the U.S. Marine Corps.
This newest facility will be multi-story and be approximately 511,100 SF, This will be the newest medical facility to be build on Camp Pendleton in 35 years. Approximately 64 beds are expected to be part of this 511,100 SF facility.
The current hospital, which overlooks Lake O'Neill, may be converted to an office building provided it meets the state earthquake requirements for that use.
Most of the people seen now at the hospital, both active-duty troops and military retirees, are treated on an outpatient basis. Those requiring more extensive care or long stays are treated at military facilities in San Diego.
The completion date is speculated to be the end of 2012 2014-over 1000 workers are expected to be part of the project. This work force is definitely a much needed boost to our local economy.
