Pelham, New Hampshire celebrates "Old Home Day" on September 18th

Pelham NH Historical Society   In 1899, Governor Frank W. Rollins, was concerned about the decline of the small towns in New Hampshire- Rollins had a vision that communities in New Hampshire set aside a time for residents to come together to keep the town spirit alive.  "Old Home Day" was officially recognized by Proclamation in the New Hampshire State Legislature in 1913.

New Hampshire continues this tradition and on September 18th, the Town of Pelham will celebrate Old Home Day and enjoy the spirit of community.

This year's theme is "Pelham - A Special Place"

Joan, the pie contest at 2 followed by the church supper, sounds like backwards, fun. The carriage and bicycle parade should be a blast, especially if the kids (boys) put the baseball cards attached to the spokes like I used to, so that the bike sounded mean.

Hannah ~  This is a fun packed day.. with something for everyone in the family. I am excited about the New England Pet Partner Parade.. and will be participating with one of the therapy dogs!

Kat ~  I love these "small town" celebrations.  It is great to see the communities coming together to have fun.

Ray ~  I love my new title... the Jedi of Localism in NH.

George ~  It seems to me you can "have your pie and eat it too!"  LOL... I am looking forward to trying out some of that pie.

Joan ~  I am going to make it to at least a couple this weekend!  I try to pick events that my clients and friends would like.  I am starting to get phone calls from folks asking about particular events... and then I put them on my email list to let them know when a particular type of even is happening.   My clients who have relocated from other states particularly like these blog posts.  It's a great way to stay in touch with them.

Joan  It would appear Pelham, New Hampshire really gets in the spirit of "Old Home Day".  The tradition is now 97 years old in New Hampshire

Joan - society is beginning to change once again as people realize the laid back life style of small towns is something to enjoy. The only problem is they are trying to bring the me first instant gratification scenario into the small towns they are moving to. Those of us who have enjoyed small town living for years really do not want what they are not leaving behind when they move to a small town

Laura ~  There are beautiful old homes and it is fun to see the architecture.  It does give us a glimpse into the lives of those who lived there many years ago.

Kathy ~ You raise a very good point.  Perhaps those who have been in the community a long time can be the mentors for those who move into the smaller towns.

Ray ~ I love being a yoda Jedi
