$5000.00 Rebates per home

Its the fall season and we are starting to think about getting our homes ready for the winter. Here are a few ideas on getting some money back from the government for a change.

If you are planning on getting a new furnace this year you might as well get a home energy audit from an authorized supplier and you could get a rebate of up to $750.00 from the Ontario government. This applies to certain models and must be for a minimum efficiency of 92%.

Once you get an energy audit, you will see where you need to make some improvements, from upgrading your furnace, A/C, toilets, leaky windows, doors and even where to add more insulation. The blower test will measure the air leakage of your house. Mine is the equivalent to a bus stop.  You don't have to do everything on the list, pick and choose whats important to you.

After you have completed all the upgrades and work around the house, you will do another energy audit of your home. When you compare the two reports you will see the difference from your upgrades and the improvement in air leakage.

For example when you upgrade to a low flow toilet the rebate will be $65.00 each and you will save money everything you flush by using less water. So, if you are planning on a new furnace and maybe sealing windows and doors anyways you might as well get an audit and get some rebates.

There is up to $5000.00 per home in rebates from the Government of Ontario. Check out this link for more information www.greensaver.org

Government rebates are always fun for the recipient. We had a similar toilet exchange program in Virginia Beach for several years. The new toilets had to be water efficient and the old toilets were taken to a special recycling station (by the city) rather than going into the landfills like everyting else.

Donna:  Great suggestions!  Getting an energy audit and installing low-flow toilets help are benefits on so many levels.  Excellent and timely; thank you.
