Fall-planted garlic is recommended for Northern and mid-state gardeners who experience cold winters. Gardeners in Southern regions, who experience mild winter weather, should plant garlic in the late winter or early spring.

Add this essential aromatic vegetable to your garden by planting garlic this fall. Plant garlic cloves as you prepare your garden for winter, and fresh green shoots will greet you in the spring. Harvest garlic heads during the summer, and hang them to dry for long-term storage. Then enjoy the complex, rich, savory flavor in soups, casseroles, meat dishes, salad dressings, and more.

When planted in the fall, garlic establishes its roots and starts the growth process that will be completed the following summer. Fall-planted garlic emerges earlier than spring-planted garlic, often producing more vigorous plants and larger bulbs.

My wife and I dry our extra Tomatoes in the fall and use them all winter in sauces. Amazing flavor!
