I typically try to keep politics off Activerain, with the exception being the occasional "wordless blog post" where I post a political cartoon, only to give others some much needed joy with their early morning newspaper and coffee.

But when I go on yahoo.com, and see that on the home page there is a link to an article titled "Montana GOP policy, make homosexuality illegal" I think to myself.... this is why I have yet to state my party, if I even have one. So I obviously click to read more, as I can't stand when these idiot politicians make bold claims just to get their "5 minutes" of fame.

At a time when gays have been gaining victories all throughout the country, the Republican party in Montana wants to make homosexuality illegal. The party is in support of making homosexual acts illegal! Yes, you read right! Apparently infidelity can be legal, but being Gay is illegal? How in the hell does that make any sense whatsoever?

Gay rights has been growing nationally since the US Supreme Court struck down Texas' sodomy law in 2003's Lawrence V Texas decision. Gay marriage is now legal in 5 states, and a federal court just ruled that the military's don't ask don't tell policy to be unconstitutional.

"It speaks volumes to the lesbian and gay community how they are perceived by the Republican Party," Montana Human Rights organizer Abbott said. "It would be nice if Republicans that understand that gay people are human beings would stand up and say they don't agree with that. But I don't know how likely that is."

I really am shocked that this would be someone's stance. I don't judge you, I don't ask why the person you are out with tonight isn't even your wife. I don't believe anyone has the right to make it illegal to be with another person, whether that person is gay, straight, bisexual, or transgender. I love every person for who they are, and if you agree with this stance, then I really would ask yourself, what type of person am I if I think i have the right to not only judge others, but to make it illegal for that man to be with another man, or that woman to be with another woman, if that is what this country has came to, or is that just some IDIOT Republican in Montana trying to get his 5 minutes of fame?

love not hate

I once asked a state representative why he proposed a particular piece of legislation that didn't seem to be very practical.  He said that he did it because it made some of the people in his district happy and he knew it would die long before it went to a vote.  Probably the same with the Montana proposal.

I read this yesterday too. I guess that the those in the Montana GOP had better hope that a movement to have stupidity made illegal doesn't get started.  I'm not sure how they would all fair in jail.

I think we all know that whoever made that stupid statement doesn't speak for all Republicans, and probably not all Republicans in Montana.  Just as some idiot Democrat isn't qualified to speak for all Democrats when they come out with some of the outrageous stuff they do.  We each need to use some common sense - first of all, not say stuff like this, and second... not judge half the country by the words of some loud-mouthed idiot(s) with whom we disagree.
