A great travesty has been a part of our national landscape for about fifteen years, now. It concerns the refusal to acknowledge equal rights and equal treatment for a group of American citizens... who are also members of the United States Armed Services.
The travesty is the refusal of the Armed Services, and of the National Government as well, to apply the same laws to ALL members of the Army, the Navy, the Marines, the Air Force, and the Coast Guard.
That policy is sometimes referred to as DADT... which stands for Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
Members of the above Armed Forces are being discriminated against... because the DADT law applies to them, and has singled them out.
Who has recently mounted a campaign to try and succeed... where gay rights advocates in Washington so far have failed?
Why... it is a woman named Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta... better known as Lady Gaga.
Here is Ms Germanotta, Lady Gaga... to tell you in her own words.
Ms Germanotta is spearheading a campaign to free our Armed Services members from the shackles of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. For some reason she, and her 6,300,000 followers on Twitter, want the discrimination of DADT to stop. It appears that Ms Germanotta actually believes in the freedoms granted by the United States Constitution. How totally brilliant of her.
Funny how they think that to grant one group of Soldiers the freedom to be themselves, and to refuse that same right... to another group of Service Men and Service Women... is an honest and fair interpretation of the Constitution... is just plain nutz.
If you are an American, and I mean a true American, and IF you believe in the United States Constitution... and its guarantee of equal treatment for ALL of its citizens... and not special treatment for a specific group... please add your support to Lady Gaga's campaign to stop the unfair treatment the DADT regulation enforces.
