Today was a rare treasure of a day! Normally Saturdays are a frenzy of housecleaning and yard work. In addition to my irregular real estate work schedule, my husband and daughter are both working in retail establishments. My "second daughter" who lives with us works at a local banquet facility, so weekends are usually long days for her. So, with schedules like these, it is a extraordinary occasion that no one is working on a weekend!
In fact, I don't think I remember a day as peaceful and unscheduled as this in YEARS!
When I realized I had a rare day with everyone at home, I decided to work from home for a couple of hours this morning, and enjoy the day with family.
So what did we do with ourselves on this uniquely uncommitted day?
The nice thing was that we practically did nothing at all.
Everyone took their time getting up and ready for the day -- no one complained or fought over who was next to use the shower. Everyone pretty much scrounged up their own meals in the kitchen and no one complained about what was in the fridge. (Of course I'm sure the fresh batch of fried chicken the girls made yesterday helped that along!)
And somehow, at a very leisurely pace, some housework actually got done, and I didn't even have to get assertive.
Somehow, the dishes got washed and put away (no automatic dishwasher here), the bathroom got cleaned, the porch got swept, some raking got done in the yard, and the girls picked up and straightend up downstairs and cleaned the upstairs bathroom.
We all had some quiet time, the TV never got turned on until after nine P.M., no one fought over computer time, and it was an all around pleasant day! Myself, I indulged in some sumoku, sudoku, and kakuro puzzles while I enjoyed my family just being at home around me.
