A Rare and Wonderful Day! Pinch me--Is this for real??

Saturday morning house cleaning!Today was a rare treasure of a day!  Normally Saturdays are a frenzy of housecleaning and yard work. In addition to my irregular real estate work schedule, my husband and daughter are both working in retail establishments. My "second daughter" who lives with us works at a local banquet facility, so weekends are usually long days for her.  So, with schedules like these, it is a extraordinary occasion that no one is working on a weekend!

In fact, I don't think I remember a day as peaceful and unscheduled as this in YEARS!

When I realized I had a rare day with everyone at home, I decided to work from home for a couple of hours this morning, and enjoy the day with family.

So what did we do with ourselves on this uniquely uncommitted day?

Saturday relaxationThe nice thing was that we practically did nothing at all.

Everyone took their time getting up and ready for the day -- no one complained or fought over who was next to use the shower.  Everyone pretty much scrounged up their own meals in the kitchen and no one complained about what was in the fridge. (Of course I'm sure the fresh batch of fried chicken the girls made yesterday helped that along!)

And somehow, at a very leisurely pace, some housework actually got done, and I didn't even have to get assertive.

Somehow, the dishes got washed and put away (no automatic dishwasher here), the bathroom got cleaned, the porch got swept, some raking got done in the yard, and the girls picked up and straightend up downstairs and cleaned the upstairs bathroom.

We all had some quiet time, the TV never got turned on until after nine P.M., no one fought over computer time, and it was an all around pleasant day! Myself, I indulged in some sumoku, sudoku, and kakuro puzzles while I enjoyed my family just being at home around me.

Lisa, It sounds like a wonderful day.  Enjoy those days as you can.  Our birds have left the nest and we have a very quiet house.  I had to laugh when I saw you comment about no fights over computer time.  That was the biggest fight at our house when they were growing up.

I was thinking the same thing today and went to a fall festival in a small town nearby by myself. I took lots of pictures as I explores all the sights and sounds. Later when I was sitting on a bench watching the people, I felt so relaxed and calm. Like all was right with the world. My life is always so fast paced it really was amazing just to sit there where no one knew me from the hundreds of people. Fried chicken is always a good thing! YUM!

Mike - cleaning is just a necessary evil! LOL

Marchel - I really enjoyed having everyone home. It's been nice having my daughter back at home this year.

Aaron - it's a rare occasion for sure, but you're right--it's nice to know days like this can still happen!

Lizette - That's another rare treat -- doing something completely by yourself, away from the regular surroundings and demands of schedules!

A relaxing day with family is always the best.  Grab them while you can and so glad you thought to take advantage.  They don't happen often enough!

Lindsey - I love the way this business is flexible enough to let us spend part of our work day with our kids... mine are too old to want to tag along too often, so enjoy this time!

Ted - I wish you a "ring-less" day in the mountains, and hope all your business will be happy to wait till Monday! Enjoy!

Debbie - We are blessed to have the ability to be flexible!

Leah- Not often enough, but I've had a few of them lately, and I'm really enjoying it!

I too try to savor those occassions when no one in my family has any place they need to be but home.  They don't happen often but I do so appreciate them when they do.
