The British Invasion in Stowe, Vermont - September 17-19, 2010
For the past 20 years, Stowe Vermont has hosted the British Invasion. Stowe's typical cars - Subarus and Chevys - become outnumbered by hundreds of tiny British cars - many with their tops down. The owners drive around with scarves, British hats and flags. It's quite a site for our local eyes!
The British Invasion is North America's largest British Classic Sports Car event. It is traditionally held in mid-September just before our prime foliage season.
This year, the weather was perfect! Sunny, a tad cool, with touches of autumn color peeking through. There were tourists from all over the world for the event.
The show itself featured Bentleys, Austin Healeys, Aston Martins, MGs, Morgans, Triumphs and Rolls Royces. A Stowe Village British Invasion Block Party was held on September 17th to kick off the Annual Event. It featured "The Beatles" group which played that great Beatles music throughout the night while adults and kids danced on Main Street surrounded by the "beautiful" classic cars. There was also food, crafts and refreshments for all to enjoy.
According to Chris Fancis, the British Invasion has grown exponentially over the years and is now one of Stowe's flagship events. It's a great community supported event. He also says "You've got art, you've got history, you've got romance - all tied up in these little cars". Chris and Lyn Francis, owners of Ye Olde England Inne and Pickwicks, were the driving force behind this event. Stowe Area Association, along with many local sponsors, put on a fun and well attended event. Once again, well done!
Here is a slideshow featuring many of the stars of the event. Hope you enjoy the photos and the music!
