I Answer My Phone, Part Deux! RANT!@

By
Real Estate Agent with Ken Meade Realty

On September 14th, I wrote a post about answering the phone as a Real Estate Agent in Sun City. You can read it here.

Today, September 19th, two more posts on the same subject were featured. You can read them here, and here.

Obviously, the sage continues and will be an issue for a good long time. I can almost understand the agents who are foreclosure specialists. They often have large listing inventories and are required to check the condition, organize and pay for the needed repairs and maintenance, and manage a huge flow of paper. I do wish these agents would get assistance thought. For all of the rest of the agents out their who don't answer the phone, please change your ways or get out of the business.

It can be REALLY annoying when an agent doesn't answer their phone or worse yet, return phone calls. I don't answer my phone when driving (we have a "hands free while driving" law here) but if the agent is kind enough to leave a message then I get right back to them. How do these agents stay in business?

Cynthia, like you I try not to talk while driving, but we don't have a hands-free law here. I do tell the caller that I am in traffic, hold on a moment while I get over and to a safe spot, often they say just call back when it is safe.

Jim, I wrote about this problem a few weeks ago.  Some agents responded to my post saying that  they wanted to give the listing agent the benefit of the doubt.  All too frequently agents don't call you back.

Jim, I have a head set and always try to answer my calls and let the agents or the clients know I am driving, so please do not ask me to write anything down, if they can they can text it to my cell phone or e-mail me. The bottom line when I am not answering the phone I am talking to someone or I am showing properties.Usually the longest I go without call back is about three to four hours. There is no exuse not to get back to someone.

Not answering the phone, not returning emails, are people really that busy?

9AM this morning I was previewing a home, a puddle of water was found in the bathroom. Of course I called the listing agent, who has not responded yet (it is now 5:05 PM) Fortunately, there was also info on the REO property manager. 3 calls later, maybe someone will go out. If I was the REO seller, I would hope they would find a more responsive agent.
