I was driving from my home office to the North Bay Association of Realtors (NorBAR) for a seminar when I spotted a brilliant flash of gold. Up ahead on my left was Sts. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church. I had remembered reading an article in the newspaper about the domes on the church having been refurbished recently. The sun was high in the sky, not a cloud in sight and the domes were spectacular.

If it hadn't been for road construction that has been going on for years (literally), I wouldn't have chosen this particular path. I'm glad I did, I found a little treasure that made my day.

Patricia - I NEVER carried a camera with me at all times until a couple of months ago. Now I'm on the ready and I love it! The only problem? I'm using a 2004 model and now ... NOW ... I want a REALLY NICE CAMERA. Ut oh! I need to sell some houses! LOL

Nevin - LOL, if I didn't know you better I would have thought that was a plug! Since you had a place at TSR, I'm sure you drove past Fort Ross all the time. Did you ever stop by there for a tour? The history of Russians coming here and settling in Sonoma County on the Pacific Coast is amazing. I need to go back, it's been a long time since I've been there. P.S. I may need to do a part 2 of this post to explain why Sonoma County is seeped with Russian history.

Ssssssynthia, I've traveled a bit on business over the years, and our country's churches have some of the neatest architecture....but of course if we want to get serious, we need to leave the country! Europe's old cathedrals and the temples in Japan just amaze me!

BLiz - I have been in some awesome churches in Italy and Portugal. In one church in Portugal the walls were made entirely of human bones and skulls ... talk about chilling!

Sue - I would love to go inside ... I have a few Russian friends, I'll have to ask if they will take me in one day.

Jane - I had to stop, this was such a treat to see.

Cindy - detours can be frustrating, but this one was fun. I actually stopped 5 times for photo opportunities.

Charles - I couldn't have asked for a nicer back drop! Now I just wish I had a better camera!
