What's in your medicine cabinet?  If you are like many of us, there are some old, partially used medications gathering dust.  We often recommend that sellers make sure they don't have easily accessible prescription medications in their homes for sale - but it is really a hazard for all of us.  Reading the statistics on how many teenagers find their parent's medicine cabinets (or those in a friend's home) to be a ready source of illicit drugs is enough to be pretty alarming.

But what is a responsible person supposed to DO with those unneeded, unwanted medications?  Flushing them down the toilet leads to a measurable amount of drugs that don't get adequately filtered out before landing in our waterways - and potentially in our drinking water.  Throwing them in the trash isn't a go either since they are considered hazardous materials.

Thurston County has numerous drop off places where you can toss those unused medications into secure drop off boxes.  These drop off boxes are free - so check through YOUR medicine cabinet and dispose of any unused, expired medications.

Interesting - that's just something I never thought of.  I am going to have to see if there are Drop Off boxes in my area, too!

HI Leesa - the link I have in the post shows drop sites elsewhere in Washington - not sure if it points toward other similar resources elsewhere...  When I read about it though they sure had scary statistics about how many kids that use prescription drugs get them right out of their parents medicine cabinets or at a friend's house - and I took a look at my own cabinet...  Nice to have a safe place to dispose of them!
