Well, it finally happened to me this weekend...one of the funniest real estate experiences in my career. So...I walk up to a vacant Bank Repo to preview it, open the front door, enter and close the door behind me. Do my previewing and go back to the front door to leave and, lo and behold, THERE WAS NO INTERIOR HANDLE ON THE DOOR! I couldn't get the dang door to open, tried everything in my arsenal of Brilliant Realtor Emergency Ideas...ie...my car keys, kicking the door, praying, yelling at the non-present listing agent, creating new cuss words that don't exist yet in the english language, etc. Then, I thought, wait a minute....I will just go to the garage access door to get out...OOPS...garage access door is boarded nicely up! Ok, how about the main large swing up garage door? NOPE, dutifully locked from the outside by the attentive property preservation company. Alright, I still have the slider to the patio area...let's go try that...NO DICE!...a crowbar wouldn't move that baby. But, hey come on, we still have the windows, right?!! WRONG...every stinking window has a screw run through the window frame and wont budge!!
So, what would a rational trapped real estate agent do next? How about contacting the listing agent for a little assistance out of this really awkward situation?....WRONG...it is one of those endless loop REO Listing Brokerage phone systems that never picks up...plus it's Saturday...does anybody answer their phone on Saturday...come on, it's life and death!! Wow, what a weird circumstance to find myself in...stuck in a house with no way out other than breaking through a window (with cross grids - LOL!). My mind starts haunting me...what if a fire broke out or maybe an earthquake?...Dave, you could die in here and nobody would know it.......then, with all the ingenuity in me, I gave it one last college try and figure out a way to jerry-rig the front door mechanism open. FREE FREE AT LAST, FREE to move onto the next Vacant Black Hole ready to suck in it's next unsuspecting victim.
This really happened...I would love to hear about your crazy, funny, wacky experiences while out performing in our fun business.
