Snowbirds - Is it Seasonal Human Migration?
Did you know that some researchers suggest that "snowbirds" who travel to warmer climates during the winter, display patterns of seasonal human migration? This practice can be traced back to colonial times, when "Bostonians" would travel by sea to South Caroline, Georgia and Florida.
The word "Snowbird" offers many definitions. For instance, Snowbird is a Ski Resort in Canyon, Utah. It can be associated with travelers visiting from the north to soak up the sun in the south. Full time residents often view snowbirds as an annoyance because they're perceived as driving like maniacs when they arrive. They clog up the roads and highways, especially during the holiday season.
The word Snowbird reminds me of a song made popular by Anne Murray. You may remember the song, "Spread your tiny wings and fly away and take the snow back with you, where it came from on that day. So, little Snowbird, take me with you when you go, to that land of gentle breezes where the peaceful waters flow".
Becoming a full time resident of Florida (six years now), I look forward to the return of the Snowbirds. Our communities become alive again. Our businesses flourish, our restaurants are busy and our quaint shops are bustling with friendly shoppers seeking treasures and great buys. Our golfing communities are filled with snowbirds enjoying the pristine natural beauty of our premier golf courses.
It's also a great time to showcase our private golf communities. Whether our snowbirds are here visiting, looking for a relaxing lifestyle, or searching for extraordinary deals on homes for purchase to migrate yearly, or become residents full time, Welcome Back!
