The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) announces that the Crescent Beach Bridge (SR 206) will be closed September 24, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with 20-mile detour.

Please avoid SR 206 between US1 and A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway (A1A) in St. Augustine this Friday as the bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) will be closed.

The Crescent Beach Bridge on State Road 206 will be closed from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., Friday, September 24th. During this time, all traffic will be detoured approximately 20 miles across the Matanzas River using the Mickler-O'Connell Bridge on SR 312.

The closure on Friday, September 24th is the first of up to 15 days the bridge can be closed during the ongoing FDOT bridge-painting project and is necessary so crews can remove the old paint from parts of the bridge only accessible when the bridge is up. This is a change from the earlier schedule which would have closed the bridge Thursday night through Friday morning. The remaining bridge closure schedule is undetermined at this time.

Message signs are in place to warn motorists of the closure and 20-mile detour. Signs will also be placed along the detour route to direct motorists during the detour.

Coastal Marine Construction Inc. of Venice, began work in February and should be completed by late 2010 or early 2011, barring unforeseen conditions such as bad weather.
