Point Vicente Interpretive Center, Rancho Palos Verdes 90275   Point Vicente Interpretive Center Amphitheater, Rancho Palos Verdes 90275

Point Vicente Interpretive Center is located on an ocean bluff with such fabulous views of the Pacific Ocean that it is used as a center to count the migration of whales each year (click here to see current count).  According to the Rancho Palos Verdes city site, "The Interpretive Center opened in 1984 with a mission to present and interpret the unique features and hisotry of the Palos Verdes Peninsula."

The museum inside offers a look at the geology and history of Palos Verdes, artifacts from early settlers, information on whale migration and even a section on the old Marineland!  Outside one can wander the 28 acre park through native plantings and coastal walkways or sit in the amphitheater (right-hand photo) and perhaps catch sight of a migrating whale from December to mid-May.  Although whales have been spotted even in August this year.

The Point Vicente Interpretive Center is located at 31501 Palos Verdes Drive South, Rancho Palos Verdes 90275 and is open daily from 10:00 to 5:00 p.m. (closed January 1, Thanksgiving Day, December 24 and 25).  Click here for a map.
