Halloween will be here before we know it, so it's time to decide how to use this event for a real estate promotion.
It really is worth thinking about, because based on the dollars spent each year, Halloween really catches the attention of the American public. Did you know - market research shows that aside from actual holiday gifts, we spend more money on Halloween than on any other holiday.
We buy cards, clothes, candy, costumes, hair paint, face paint, paper plates, glasses, and decorations, ceramic and plastic dishware, cookie jars, platters, movies, music, and even "Christmas lights" shaped like pumpkins or skeletons.
So... your clients, prospective clients, past clients, and those in your sphere of influence will notice if you make some kind of effort.
One year I purchased two of those huge grocery store bins of small to medium sized pumpkins to give away. I sent a press release (free) to the newspaper and they sent out the invitation. Then they took our photographs with the pumpkins and that got in the newspaper too. It was an effective attention-getter.
Did it help us get a listing or sell a house? I don't know. It did keep our agency up front in people's minds - and we did stand out as the only agency in town that made an effort.
So what can you do? Perhaps you could:
- Get into the spirit by wearing a costume on Halloween
- Help a local non-profit put on a haunted house
- Throw a party
- Choose something to give away at your office
- Volunteer to gather up some neighborhood kids and "trick or treat" for a cause
- Work a Halloween theme and graphics into your emails and ads
- Put a skeleton or a pumpkin on your website for that week
Let your imagination run wild... and then share your ideas!
Hmmm...maybe you could create a marketing message around the idea that choosing the wrong agent can be too, too spooky!
