Real Estate Myth #3: Real Estate Agents Can Only Sell THEIR Company's Listings. I am not really sure where this myth originated. I wonder if it is from the days of MLS Books and it was more convenient for agents to show their own listings. Maybe it is related to Real Estate Myth #2: Realtors Are LIARS and CROOKS. It could just be a perception of "steering" clients to listings that would net a larger commission.
Say it ain't so. . . No matter where this myth came from it is NOT true. North Carolina real estate agents are licensed to sell real estate across the entire state. Agents tend to focus on a specific area that they are familiar with. This allows them to serve their clients with an expert knowledge and understanding.
Sharing is good. The MLS (Multiple Listing Service) is a cooperative system designed to allow real estate agents from other offices and companies to share information. Local real estate associations also share their information with sites like Realtor.com, REMAX.com, Zillow, Trulia, etc. to allow listings to be shared around the world.
The more the merrier. This sharing allows real estate agents to better serve their clients. Buyers get the benefit of seeing a wider range of homes with the exact amenities that they desire. Sellers get the benefit of the exposure to a WORLD full of potential buyers. The more listings that are shared just makes the whole process better for everyone involved.
Real Estate Myth #3: Real Estate Agents Can Only Sell THEIR Company's Listings. Real estate agents want to provide the best service to their clients. If we only sold and showed our own listings it would be a disservice to both buyers and sellers alike. The more eyes that can see my seller's home the better their chances are to be able to meet their goals and open a new chapter in their lives. The more homes I can search to find the perfect home for my buyer's gives them options to choose and compare. I wouldn't have it any other way!
