So how many realtor know about Polybutylene? Do you know what it LOOKS LIKE?

I'm Home Inspector in Arizona. We have several location in Phoenix area that has this pipe in the house.

Give little history of plastic resin pipe:

Polybutylene is a form of Plastic Resin that was used very extensively in the manufacture of water supply piping from 1978 until 1995.The low cost of material and ease of installation, polybutylene piping systems was viewed as "the pipe of the future"this was used as a substitute for copper piping. This was mostly found in the "Sun Belt" where residential construction was heavy used through the 1980's and early to mid 90's, but it is also very common in Mid-west, Southwest Northwest Pacific states.

The color of this pipe is typically gray or white in color with very dull finish.

This pipe mainly used for underground water mains and interior water distribution piping.Expert have said this stuff has been install in at least 10 million homes. Also they back in Early 80 to mid-90's this stuff install in about one in every four to five homes built during those years in which the pipe was manufactured.

Here is good example of it in Scottsdale, Az

Hi David,

You need to watch out for this type of plumbing because in 1995 their was class action lawsuit on it.This piping does leak and can be very bad leak in house. We talking about replumbing the whole house.

Take Care,
