A True Mortgage Professional on Oahu, Hawaii *Update*

Bruce Bourgalt is an Active Rain Member, Vice President, MPro (Mortgage Professional) of Central Pacific Bank, Oahu, Hawaii. He drops by our office, Century 21 Liberty Homes in Mililani, Hawaii quite often just to say hello and he will also give us some info on programs and especially VA loans  as the majority of our client's are military stationed at Schofield Barracks and Wheeler Army Air Field. (We also have many client's from Hickam, Pearl Harbor, and Kaneohe as they love Mililani which is centrally located on the island).

Bruce stated, "The organization I have joined is the National Association of Mortgage Professionals "M". This association does a comprehensive background check on all of us.  The complete background check includes a police record check, an Individual State Licensing check, Individual Continuing Education Requirements check, and an Individual Standards of Conduct Check" and the rest of his article can be read here: I am so Proud

We didn't see Bruce for awhile last year and we found out he had cancer. I've never seen a more brave man in my life struggling to continue with his career while battling cancer. He is going in the hospital on September 5, 2007 (date moved up to the fifth) to have surgery once more. This time he is more confident that this will work. Good Luck Bruce! We'll be having that hot dog together shortly!

Bruce recently wrote an article If you cheat, you cheat yourself and it started bringing up all sorts of "feelings" for me. It is disheartening to know people who cheat, lie or try to deceive the public and the members of Active Rain. Plagiarism is rampant on Active Rain (and we all know how hard it is to monitor over 45,000 members so help out and flag the ones you KNOW are copy/paste articles)  There are also members who "lie by omission". That is, telling a little and leaving out a lot. It's still lying no matter how anyone tries to justify it.

Bottom line, Bruce and many of us here on Active Rain work very hard to produce honest, trustworthy, and valid information about ourselves, our community and our industry as we know it. Personally, I spend MANY hours (I don't have little children so you can conclude that that time is mine) and Bruce has become another "blogger gone wild". WooHoo! We will find all types here on Active Rain of all personalities.

I think I'll just give my attention to the good people, like Bruce. (He's now on my list of trustworthy Mortgage Professionals) and...........I'm not eating any Hot Dogs until we have that lunch!

** I recently found Bruce's wife Linda's blog. She will be giving us updates on Bruce during the next two weeks and here's her latest:  He Isn't A Rapist and I'm Not An Axe Murderess... (when two strangers meet...) and her story about Bruce and their fight with his cancer in "Rising to the challenge"...when the sky is falling!

Great shout out to Bruce Sis.  What I've saw him post has been very good.  He seems like a Fantastic Mortgage Professional we all can learn from.

I remember that article by Bruce.  Hey, I love "wild" bloggers.  I'll subscribe and read him more often

08/28/2007 02:58 PM by Lenn Harley, Homefinders.com, MD & VA Real Estate

Thank you for linking to Bruce's post "If you cheat you cheat yourself". I had missed that one, and I am glad to have found it through your link.

08/28/2007 03:14 PM by Allison Werner (Gloria Nilson GMAC Real Estate)

Jason: He is definitely worthy of it. I did not use him during our boom...hardly spoke to him....he kept coming around and showed up again at our office and then...joined AR. (he's a junkie like the rest of us)

Lenn: He is pretty wild...good for you. He's a good man.

Allison: Good deal!

Hi Sally -- Just got in the office and saw your blog.  I am humbled by it and thank you so much.  I love your C21 Liberty Homes office because I got my start in the business back in 1984 in this office.  Thanks again for your so kind thoughts, prayers, and words.  Aloha

Sally, you will have to let us know how Bruce's surgery goes, as well as his recovery.  Hope you beat this thing Bruce.  Keep your faith in God and I know he will see you through this.

Sally, this is a wonderful tribute to Bruce, a very special man. I'm a big fan of his and I will be sharing a hot dog that day too ( a vegee version). All my prayers and talks with the universe include Bruce...

He is a man of great integrity and character...I truly admire him and he is extremely rare.

I see a lot of plagiarism here lately. I flag the odd one, however I notice they don't end up with the little yellow thing. So perhaps, AR is just getting too big for the powers that be to keep up with .

Lies by omission are the worst kind and I am always amazed at the number of people who think they are OK to tell. Or the other kinds of people who think that 'if you don't ask the right questions, why expect them to give the right answers?'  .   Honesty is a big thing with me, my parents are the most honest people I know. My brothers have been known to tell my Dad that he brought us up to be 'TOO' honest, since honesty sometimes appears to hurt a person....I don't know though, I would rather be honest and be able to live with myself, than the alternative...

thanks for an inspiring and beautiful post....

Hey Sally,  I guess I need to hop over to Bruce's blog.  There are so many people on AR that I know I'm missing out on some good stuff.

Sounds like I missed something though.  I haven't seen what everyone is referring to.

08/28/2007 08:53 PM by Stephanie Edwards-Musa, Realtor ® The Woodlands, TX Real Estate (Prudential Gary Greene, Realtors ®)

Sally.... I have gotten to know Bruce a little. He doesn't visit many of us on the east much, but hey, that's okay. Seriously...  I wish Bruce all the best. He'll come through just fine, especially with people like you supporting him. When you guys have that hot dog, call me on my cell phone and I will run to the nearest place and eat one with you, but on the east coast.

On another note...  this also sounds like a pay it forward blog, as we talked about yesterday in regards to my post.  Nice tribute.... and Bruce.. go get them buddy.

I can imagine....and I know....my dad had lung cancer. It's always hard on loved ones...you have one strong woman right there beside you! I'm not in the office today! In fact, I'm on my way to Ewa. A client who is in Iraq...his mom is here to clean for his homecoming in Oct and I offered to help. Thanks!

Sally,

I'm certain that your post and recognition of Bruce is a spirit lifter in itself.  I believe that one's body can better heal itself when the spirit is also treated.....so Dr Sally....great job!

08/30/2007 05:06 AM by Ron Withers (Town & Country Mortgage Services, Inc.)

Ron:  That was really nice. I like to think of myself as a "spirit lifter"....I also wanted to help Bruce out for when he gets out....have a referral from a current client...they'll be back from Iraq the beginning of October.

Hi Sally, what a wonderful tribute to Bruce! I love his posts! I can only imagine what his wife and he are like in person and how lucky you and Randy are to know him personally. When you see him again, please give him a big hug from me? Mahalo!

08/30/2007 08:51 PM by Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman (RA), HAWAII Real Estate & HAWAII Relocation (Century 21 Liberty Homes -Mililani, Hawaii)

Sally thank you for taking the time to share this.  Great persons come and go in our life all the time.  I recently lost a few good friends in real estate.  One was a broker and mentor. I took it very hard, but did not share it.  It is always good to share...about those that make a difference.

08/30/2007 09:06 PM by Jim Crawford ~ Atlanta Real Estate-ABR E-PRO (RE/MAX Greater Atlanta)

Jim:  He just stopped in this afternoon and I gave him two hugs...and told him we'll share a hot dog. Gotta share Jim...because it's a little easier than carrying stuff all by yourself. If I didn't have the support of my office when my dad passed away I really don't know if I would have come back to work so quickly.

With Bruce...this is hopefully the last bit of surgery and he should be all brand new by the end of September...

08/30/2007 09:15 PM by Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman (RA), HAWAII Real Estate & HAWAII Relocation (Century 21 Liberty Homes -Mililani, Hawaii)

I can't say enough about Bruce.  He's one of the first people to offer me a home in his company after Charter Funding closed it's doors.  Great man.

09/01/2007 03:38 PM by Pete Castillejos-Hawaii Refinance or Purchase (808 Home Mortgage, Inc.)

Hi Sally.

I went to 808 Home Mortgage, Inc.  www.808homemortgage.com .  I interviewed around, but in the end, especially after what happened at Charter, I chose to work for a broker opposed to being employed by a lender directly.  I know it's not Charter's fault, but I lost a lot of commission because they were unable to pay me.  I'm not comfortable working under a big lender during this market with companies closing doors.

Also with a broker I have more choices of where to find a loan, including all the major lenders locally.  And there's great peace of mind having the ability to talk to the owners FACE TO FACE regarding any concerns I have, rather than a mainland corporate voicemail when trying to find out about my pay, benefits, etc. that are owed to me.

Thanks for following up.  How are you?

09/03/2007 07:43 PM by Pete Castillejos-Hawaii Refinance or Purchase (808 Home Mortgage, Inc.)

I guess I'm pretty fortunate to have referrals and the majority of the loans go through a mortgage broker. I am going to refer one to Bruce and try that out. (bank)
