As we get older, we learn to follow our instinct.   I do follow some rules that will ensure my safety.  It is some what dangerous to be a real estate agent, but by following the rules and advice below, we can inprove our odds.

I grew up in a large and unsafe city.  The one thing that we learn to do in that enviroment is to be aware of our surroundings.

Realtor Safety Month...it takes losing a few of our own to open our eyes.

Today on Facebook, Missy Caulk shared this link.  My heart dropped.  2 deaths this week while showing vacant homes and yet another agent robbed.  One female Realtor was strangled before the home was set on fire while the other died of a gunshot.

October is Realtor Safety Month.  It’s time we get serious and put our safety first, isn’t it?  Is it REALLY worth risking our lives to run out and meet total strangers in a vacant home?  The vast majority of the time, we don’t even let anyone know where we are or WHO we are meeting.  From the outside looking in, it seems preposterous, doesn't it?

Did you know that Real estate is considered by security experts as a high-risk profession?  I sure didn’t.

Read this!  It has the 6 most dangerous situations we put ourselves in on a daily basis.  http://www.realtor.org/rmosales_and_marketing/articles/2010/1009_safety_everydaydangers

I just read the Realtor Safety Quiz.  Read it..there are a few great "AH HA moments".

I also just read about a few very scary experiences that other Agents have had.  I suggest you read it to.

I know we all think this could never happen to us...obviously the two agents that just lost their lives thought the same thing.

September is Real Estate Agent Safety Month. What a sad way to end it. I hope that agents will take the extra steps to be safe, starting today. When it comes to safety practices, how many times have you said, "I will make this exception just this time?" or "Something isn't right, but I don't want to enbarrass myself or hurt someone's feelings, just in case I am wrong."?

Trust your instincts. Our built-in survival mechanism is hardly ever wrong. Don't second guess that warning voice. Don't try to reason your way out of a clear warning signal. I have been training real estate agents on safety practices for about 15 years and I do not recall such a heinous series of crimes.

Please agents, be careful and implement a safety plan. Stick with it and start today...
