Sometimes we are just so trusting and I wanted to reblog this as a reminder. We are at the mercy of people we may not know. Thank you again for bringing this back to our attention!

PLEASE - PLEASE - PLEASE

BE CAREFUL!  BE SAFE!  HAVE A PLAN!

Do what you need to do to be safe, especially now!  Travel in pairs.  If you have not met the buyers or sellers before, bring them into your offices, walk them around - let people see their faces.  Let your office or someone know where you will be at.  Have a safe plan at open houses and vacant homes.   Attend some safety courses.  And as the experts always say -  FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCTS  If something seems off, don't go there!  Nothing is worth your life or injury!

May God watch over all of you and keep you free from every and all harm and evil!

ISSUED YESTERDAY BY THE OHIO ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS:

It is with deep sadness that we report on the murders of two prominent Northeast Ohio REALTORS.

Andrew J. VonStein, with Cutler Real Estate Ravenna Office, was found dead inside a vacant property listed for sale in Portage County. According to news reports, the Portage County Sherriff’s Office has ruled the death a homicide and is undergoing an extensive investigation.

Vivian Martin, broker-owner of Essence Realty from Youngstown and a member of the Youngstown Columbiana Association of REALTORS was also the victim of a violent homicide. This case is also under investigation.

In addition to these situations, we have been informed that there was an additional incident this week involving another Youngstown REALTOR being held at gunpoint for over an hour by three males.

At this time, it is unknown if any of these three incidents are related. We will keep you informed of developments as they become known.

We urge all members to exercise great caution and awareness in everything you do. Information on safety measures specifically for REALTORS can be found on NAR’s site at http://www.realtor.org/about_nar/safety.

so scary.  i closed down an open house when i got an uneasy feeling about a couple.  felt like i was being cased, more than the house was being viewed.  i dont do open houses anymore unfortunately.  in miami, florida, it is just too dangerous, regarldess of the precautions.  my hearts go out to their families

This was very disheartening to hear, and again makes us aware of how vulnerable we can be!

I don't know how many people have a blackberry but on the newer models there is a track my location feature. I use it with my husband if I am going alone to places I'm unsure of. If I go into the BBM and click on a regular message -> bb click -> scroll down to location ~ that sends him my GPS location and he can come. I always have it up and ready in case and very fortunate to not have to use it so far! It is a handy little feature though.
