Uxbridge, Ontario - Celebration Of The Arts 2010 -

Uxbridge has an enormous amount of local artistically talented people who use their talent to entertain, amuse and support Uxbridge residents, events, and charities. Several local sculptors have taken a great deal of time to sculpt art works out of some of the trees that had to be cut down around Uxbridge for safety reasons. These sculptures are then placed around Uxbridge for all to enjoy.

Nothing To Celebrate

Unfortunately Uxbridge also has a problem with graffiti and a group who seem bent on destroying public and private property. I can just imagine the angst that the sculptors felt when they saw their works despoiled in a wanton display of disregard for the contribution they made to Uxbridge.

Kathy, Graffiti artists, or gang territory markings, what ever it is, such a hard thing to deal with and to see. It is a vilolation not only to the artist (the hardest) but to all those view it.

In the city of Philadelphia a while back there was an effort to pull taggers together to make community murals. One way the energy was dirverted in a positive way.

Gloria - They did something similar here, in addition the local youth group had a clean up bee to help get rid of the graffiti. They were even looking into putting up cameras in targeted areas to try and curb the graffiti.

Kathy....we, too had or made attempts here in metro Detroit to channel these 'artists' in positive ways. Some
             "took" and others just continued to continue. I vote for the cameras, but would add a police-report
             TV channel where the anti-social actions would be posted, & viewed.
             Yes, I know that some of these type folks would look upon this as a badge of honor-
               -I suggest that their parents or guardians would not so do. All that being said, the sculpture photos
               are great. May the efforts there keep them pristine.
