This is an interesting article I read today, which I thought I would re-blog so my readers can also see this.  I Hope you like it as well.

I was phoned, this morning, by a "Lurker".

"What is a Lurker?" you ask.  Well, I'm so glad you asked.  No, it's not something from a science fiction movie. A lurker, is someone who reads online conversations and blogs, but never participates.  This isn't necessarily a bad thing.  For every person who comments on your blog, I'm sure that there are a dozen or more who are just reading, and have never felt the need to participate.

Maybe they feel that the comment they were going to make has already been made.  Or they might be a touch nervous, or shy.  Whatever the reason, they've just been sitting in the audience, watching the picture show, and enjoying the scenery. Snickering to themselves, and nodding their heads.

Interestingly enough, all of the people who have contacted me from social networking, to hire me as a buyer's agent or listing agent, have been lurkers.  None of them had ever commented on my blog, nor commented on any threads.  Their user names were totally unrecognizable to me.

This morning's lurker (and no, I'm not going to tell you who it was......... yet.) called to tell me that she'd been following me on my blog for a while, and that she really enjoyed my writing style, and to keep up the good work.

Well, you know I just hated hearing that... (right now I can't fit my head through the doorway)... we chatted a bit about business, and blogging, and I've encouraged her (she IS a member of AR, but a dormant member) to participate more in the wonder that is Active Rain.  We talked about Search Engine Optimization, google, and some of the other well known members of the rain.

She's going to try to be more active, and I gave her a few suggestions about possible posts, based on our conversation.  I've subscribed to her inactive blog, and will be watching, hoping and lurking... waiting for her to jump in the water.  I hope she does.

If she does, I'll release her name and information (I do have her permission) and provide a link back to her for encouragement from the cadre of Alan May subscribers.  I'll let you know how it goes.

She thought that a good topic for her first fresh post might be "my conversation with Alan May"... and I said "go for it!"... I look forward to reading about it.
