Would It Kill Us To Say "Thank You" Once In A While

 thank you

Perhaps it's a sign of the times. People are working longer hours, have less free time and seem to pulled in so many directions.  Sure, I get it, it's a me me world and we all expect certain things from others, but I've noticed lately that people in general are lacking a little in the manner department.

I'm not just speaking to my fellow real estate agents, it's everyone. Heck, even though my parents raised me with good old-fashioned Midwest values, I am just as guilty as the next guy. It seems like we are all so busy and distracted and self-absorbed in our own lives that we rarely take 2 seconds out of our day to utter two words that can make a huge difference to someone else: THANK YOU.

Think about all the things you do on a daily basis and the many people who come in contact with you. Surely during the course of your day you are presented an opportunity to show even the slightest sign of appreciation for something that someone has done for you. It could be an employee, co-worker, a vendor, a teacher, the bagger at the local grocery store, even a friend that sent a great link or funny email. It could even be a spouse or family member, people that are often taken for granted.

I'm sure someone has recently gone out of their way for you, and that gives you a great opportunity to give back to them.

Did you ever stop to think what it would mean to take just a moment of your time to stop and genuinely thank someone. Everyone loves to be appreciated and valued and saying thank you is the easiest way to do this, and best of all, it's free.

So do yourself a favor today, stop and thank someone, seriously try it. You will most likely brighten up their day and make them feel good, which in turn should make you feel good as well.

Oh, by the way, if you've made it to the bottom of this post, then I want to thank you for reading. I realize you are busy and took time out of your day to read this, and I really do appreciate it.

See, doesn't that make you feel better?

Dan and Amy, if you were to come to Miami, you would see what rude is REALLY like.  I thank people ALL THE TIME, and sometimes I dont get any kind of response.  It's crazy!

...you are welcome!

We do a "fill the bucket" exercise at my office where we publically thank others for various things they have done.

I actually have to write to thank you's on my To Do list today!  It is important, I totally agree.

There is a never any excuse for bad manners.  As long as you continue to exercise good judgment in this arena, you will continue to lead happy productive lives as none of these ignorant people will part of your cirlce.  "Thank you" for sharing

Times are tough - tempers are short - even a smile is seen less and less.  Remember how much a kind smile from a stranger in a grocery store makes you feel?  Thanks for the reminder!

THANK YOU all for your comments.

Phil - It's funny how people act in different areas of the country. Amy is from New Jersey, and moving to Ohio was culture shock to her because the people here are so laid back.

Cindy In Indy- The "fill the bucket" exercise seems like a great idea. I'll have to bring it up to our team leader. Thanks for sharing.

Dorie - You're welcome for the reminder and I bet thanking people today will put you in a great mood.

Eileen - Thank you for commenting. You seem to have a very good perspective on life.

Virginia - A smile goes a long way too, very good point. We appreciate you reading and commenting.

I have the worst habit of writing a beautiful thank you note, addressing the envelope, and then never mailing it.  Then I come across the note months later in some obscure place.

Thanks for the reminder. Living in Denver we are spoiled, I did live in Miami for a while Phil and was basically ridiculed for saying "hi" to people. But it is a great reminder to keep us on top of our game and hopefully by doing it, it will spread, I find that is usually the case.

Dan & Amy ~ I think of this simple concept often and put it to practice just this morning. In the world of short or same-day notice showings as well as non-response agents when asked for feedback...I had an agent this week call two days in advance to show a listing...he showed up on time, left on time and sent back feedback in less than an hour! When he called this morning for a 2nd showing, I had to take the time to express gratitude for his professionalism!

Margaret - I've done this as well. The intention is there though, but it helps to actually send them out.

StapletonTeam - It's funny that being nice to people is frowned upon in some areas. Thank you for reading and commenting.

Chris - Hopefully this agent sends you an offer. Sounds like a good person to work with, as do you as well.

I'm not sure how I missed this four days ago, but it is such a great post..............such a simple thing to do that only takes seconds, but so many times people forget something that should be so natural.

I really try to say thank you every time and it actually surprises people sometimes, I've actually had them look at me and say "what?".................

Thank you for writing this post.
