In 4 Inch Heels, I Plopped Down Beside Her and Proceeded to Pull Weeds

The pride and joy of my previous year was no doubt, Carolina Village. A residential lot turned adorable, award winning community, made me smile most everyday. As we are putting the finishing touches on the last two homes, my trips through the neighborhood aren't quite as frequent as required last year. Instead of once every hour, it is now about twice a week.

Yesterday I was driving through checking on construction progress, chatting with happy neighbors, and planning on taking photographs to update our buyer.

Funny thing about plans, they usually don't quite go as I intend. As I am driving by 8 Carolina Village (currently under contract and set to close in just 1 week), something caught my eye. A very small, yet extremely quick figure was running about in the back yard.

There is no way that is my precious, 83 year old, Ms. Teresa.

I was wrong. Ms. Teresa came to one of our open houses about a year ago. She stands all of 4'4", but has a 10'10" personality. She told us then that she would soon be calling us to build a brand new house for her. We never should have doubted. She is set to close next week.

I stepped out of my car and in my best southern, mannerly voice I asked, "What on earth are you doing, Ms. Teresa?? It is 88 degrees outside!"

She was fully equipped with potting shovel, watering can, gloves, and a mason jar full of iced sweet tea. She seemed surprised at my question. She explained, quite emphatically, that she was pulling weeds and watering plants at her new home.

All I could do was smile. She was sincerely concerned that the landscaping imperfections would reflect poorly on her to her new neighbors. I went on to explain to her, that her landscaping would be impeccable on closing day and that we usually wait until all construction debris is removed before perfecting the yard. That didn't even make a dent in her determination.  Matter of fact, she laid a towel down beside her and told me to help her finish the last bit..

In 4 inch heels, I plopped (and it was definitely a plop) down beside her and proceeded to pull weeds.

What's a girl to do? Real estate protocol is no match for her pride in what soon will be her brand new home.

How I wish I would have taken a picture, it would have been one for the books! Sometimes we forget that just because the checks haven't been cut, buyers take ownership way before closing, whether we like it or not.

Cherimie - Great Story!  Yes, most buyer's take ownership well before they close and it's nice to know there are still people out there that have pride of ownership or in this case pride of buyership.

Aw, Cherimie, that warmed my heart beyond belief!  YOU never cease to amaze me and how far you'll go and the things you'll do for clients.  I DO think you need to reblog your high heel story and falling off the dock.  I will NEVER EVER forget that story and STILL laugh (quietly inside so you don't hear me) when I think of it!  You are an amazing human being.....

Cherimie,

This kind of story is the reason Carolina Village has been such a wonderful success story.
