tree workSilver Leaf Forestry is a home town and local RI tree and arborist service business located in South Kingstown RI (phone - 401.529.8558) and services all surrounding RI communities (from Westerly to Warwick RI and eastern CT).  So tell me do you know what an arborist is?  I asked 4 people and everyone looked at me with blank stares...it's someone who is licensed and certified (CA-certified arborist) to take care of trees in all forms.  Not only the pruning, treating, planting, cabling, pest management, and removal of trees but also this profession works hard at keeping them healthy.

You would not expect to see a 6'5" young man doing a job like this but John Gorman, the owner of Silver Leaf Forestry, has worked in the profession since a freshman in college because he loves the outdoors.  As he says that's why it took him 5 years to get his college degree- too much time in the trees and doing tree work!

Like a monkey with harnesses on, we watched him go up and take down as well as dismember an unhealthy 60 foot tree this day.  It is a dangerous business and care and attention to the job at hand is paramount...that is why using a company like Silver Leaf Forestry which is licensed, bonded and insured is necessary. Dana Phillips, broker of Phillips Post Road Realty, said to me "John does great work and he handles the customers I refer to him with amazing finesse."

There have been a number of local stories about supposed 'tree men' cutting trees down with no insurance, getting stuck under the trees and crushing part of houses with their inept skill level...make sure who you hire is licensed and insured at all times.

arboristWe've been fortunate in my real estate office to use Silver Leaf Forestry for our clients needs...another trusted and appreciated local RI business owner who delivers great service and does a complete timely job.  I've even had clients call me back to thank me for the referral they were so satisfied...well why me?  Well he happens to be my son.  And I could not be prouder to see how he has developed his business and services his customers.  To be honest, unless he delivered superior service and satisfaction to his customers, he'd never make my blog!  Well while the tree guys hope for a great Northeast hurricane this year, the rest of us breathe easier with our upright trees in our yards right now.  So remember Silver Leaf Forestry - RI Tree & Arborist Services in South Kingstown, RI for all your tree and shrubbery needs.

Removing large trees such as this does take a specialized service provider. Far too many handymen are killed each year because they feel that they can do it themselves...

Ginny....it's fascinating to watch those men climb and saw.....I had three days of that in my back yard two years ago.....wiped out a small forest (that should piss off a few!!)  but now I have a plush green lawn....no leafs....fewer bugs....I still feed the birds and they do show up!!!

Michael...so true & you as an inspector see more of it...they need to be properly trained, certified & insured.

Barbara...it makes my heart pound to watch them up there...well you know what I dislike about the fall season is all those damn leaves in my yard...i have mega huge oaks & they're a pain...birds are important to our eco system!!

Ginny, how timely!    I went to the local arborist Friday, I am having "issues" with an aspen tree, and wanted the "doctor's view".    Great post!

Ginny, I've been lucky and amazed to see both arborists and tree service "professionals" perform their tasks.  Arborists perform individually as artists or an orchestrated team while the tree services are simply lucky to walk away from a project unscathed.  Watching the latter from a distance an already felled tree was to be sectioned and low and behold it rolled over top of a chainsaw wielding worker.  The femur was immediately in two pieces but luckily the saw did not add insult to injury.  He survived to learn a valuable lesson about gravity!

Kevin...it's a specialty job like custom furniture making...your had better know your craft.  When you depend upon people who work with you in this dangerous profession there really needs to be alot of trust...just like what you experienced- couldn't have been a pleasurable sight...thanks

Cool photos Ginny.  Interesting post too, we don't have too many trees that tall here!  My kids would have loved to watch that...Have a nice weekend.

Wow! Ginny! I can only imagine your heart must pound when you watch, or stop to think about what your son is doing! I just called our local "tree guy" because there are some trees in our yard I want to have checked, and probably taken down. We have huge, old trees around the yard, but I would truly love a bit more sun so I could do more gardening!

Erika...i know you don't have many tall trees but you've got those amazing rock formations...it is an experience to see the trees cut down...enjoy Sunday..

Nina...you know i need to step away from it when i happen to take pictures of him...he's a craftsman & is extremely careful...opening the backyard up or the front makes a whole lot of difference..the plants you can grow change and gives your gardening edge a chance to re-bloom so go for it.

I also love climbing in trees, but I don't want to cut them down like John does. LOL
