The Real Living HER Open House list for Sunday September 26, 2010 says "There are 156 Open Houses available" This Sunday's open house feels a little different. Last Sunday, September 19, 2010:
"The Real Living HER Open House List on September 19, 2010 says there are 206 Open Houses available today."
The Sunday before, Sunday September 12, 2010 the Real Living HER Open House list said:
Wow. Although I wrote a post about an open house (not my open house but a friend doing an open house on my listing) and about open houses in Worthington's Bluffsview Elementary School attendance area I did NOT write an open house post that Sunday. That is just freaky. Or out of the oridinary. I guess I got busy. I had an open house. I was threatened by an angry neighbor when entering a vacant property. I was negotiating a purchase offer. I never documented the number of open houses that Sunday. Sunday September 12, 2010 was Second Sunday... a concerted effort by Real Living HER to get more listings open. I wonder how many open house there were on the list.
The Real Living HER Open House seasonally adjusted numbers
The Real Living HER Open House List August Second Sunday says there were 295 Open Houses on the list already on the Wednesday before. The post says:
"The Real Living HER Open House List says "There are 295 Open Houses available"
Are the number of open houses down this week because it is fall? Or for another reason? Or are open houses in Central Ohio not even down at all for this time of year?
Fall or fear? Are the number of open houses down this weekend?
I wondered if Central Ohio agents could be scared to hold open houses because of what happened in northeast Ohio this week? Two real estate agents were murdered this week. The murders were not related.
I have concluded, "No it is not fear", it is the season. 158 open houses is right in line for this time of year.
A friend who used to be a real estate agent (who did not like open houses) called and emailed me yesterday to be sure I knew about the two northeast Ohio real etate agents who were killed... to tell me to be scared? Or to tell me to be careful? Yep I am aware.. Saw it first on Facebook on Tuesday. I see it on ActiveRain. We got an email from Real Living University about safety. The two real estate agents murders was the buzz at a real estate class on Wednesday. The Columbus Dispatch had an article about safety for real estate agents in Friday's paper. Or about reaction from local Realtors to the two murders in northeast Ohio.
I read in a northeast Ohio newspaper that there are not open houses Sunday afternoon in the Youngstown area. They have been canceled. I am not sure about the Akron, Kent, Ravenna area. My heart goes out to the families of both murdered real estate agents.
Late September 2009 Real Living HER Open House List
What about last year? Last year my post written for Sunday September 27, 2009 said:
"The Real Living HER Open House list says: "There are 120 166 Open Houses available.
Open Houses available" that number may go up or down before Sunday.* "

I wrote the September 2009 post on the Thursday before ... updated to the 166 on Sunday morning. 158 open houses scheduled on Saturday morning sounds totally normal for this time of year. Business as usual in Central Ohio. The link to the list in the quote is broken, the open house list is in real time, it went to the same place as the first link in this post, the Real Living HER list on my website. Forgive me for not using a cute little Real Living Open House ecard to fancy this post up. This week just feels different.
