Forty years ago, East West Communities pioneered the concept of a master planned community with Brandermill, located just outside of Richmond, Virginia. Situated on a 1,700-acre lake, Brandermill was one of the first financially successful planned communities to combine homes with offices, schools, churches, shopping, and a collection of recreational opportunities. Brandermill is an undisputed success. In 1977, East West Communities received the first of many national accolades when Brandermill was named "The Best Planned Community in America" by the National Association of Home Builders.
With each new community since, we continue to build on our heritage of innovation and achievement. East West's imaginative amenities, like Garden GolfTM., FunHousesTM., children's water parks, Tom Sawyer Island playgrounds, skating rinks, bike tunnels, and waterfront amphitheaters, continue to attract new home buyers, and sustain East West Communities' leadership in the highly competitive real estate development industry.
Consistent within our strategic approach to development is an uncompromising commitment to environmental preservation. East West Communities has introduced environmental protocol and conservation measures in virtually every new community we've built. Methods we pioneered have now been adopted as industry standards. It's true our environmental stewardship has garnered numerous awards. But, more importantly, it's the right thing to do.
For forty years, East West Communities has been developing award-winning communities and resorts in seven states across America. The success story started when the original partners were a group of young real estate professionals working for one of the nation's premier resort developers, Sea Pines Company on Hilton Head Island. The company purchased land outside Richmond, Virginia, with unprecedented plans of building a community that would offer a vacation lifestyle for everyday living. The first community, Brandermill, became home to 4,400 families and was named the "Best Planned Community in America" in 1977 by Better Homes and Gardens Magazine and the National Association of Homebuilders. The second community, Woodlake, also near Richmond, was chosen "Best Planned Community in America" by the 14,000 members of Urban Land Institute (ULI) in 1990.
In the mid-1980s, East West expanded into the Hampton Roads region of Virginia with the Gatling Pointe community near Smithfield. Gatling Pointe set the benchmark for community development in the area, and was a three-time "Community of the Year" recipient from the Peninsula Housing & Builders Association. The Riverfront at Harbour View, the developer's second masterplanned community in Hampton Roads, continued to raise the bar in community development for the region and has received numerous accolades and awards. Soon after The Riverfront at Harbour View, East West opened Eagle Harbor and Founders Pointe, both in Isle of Wight County - and both receiving multiple "Community of the Year" awards from the Peninsula Housing and Builders Association. Riverwatch is another environmentally sensitive riverfront property bordering the Piankatank River in Gloucester, Virginia - and the newest community, Liberty Ridge in Williamsburg, opened in the fall of 2008, with 3 to 9 acre wooded homesites now available.
East West has also been involved with three highly successful Homearama events with the Tidewater Builders Association. In 2001, The Riverfront at Harbour View's Homearama saw 110,000 people attend the model home show event. In 2011, East West hosted a second Homearama event at the Riverfront (80,000 visitors). In 2010, TBA held its annual Homearama event at Founders Pointe. Visit www.founderspointe.com for more information.
