Beginnings of Fall Garden Care

Fall is beginning to show itself, with leaves starting to turn and drop. My garden is starting to show signs as well. So it is that time of year again. Time to clean up the garden and get it ready for next spring. Today was going to be my garden clean up day, but last night it started to storm and this morning it is still pouring rain. It is nice, because we are in a near drought right now, so I can not complain at all. Good for the last of my carrots and peppers.

My tomato's and beans, peas and cucumbers are all long gone. I really need to get all of the dead stems and leaves turned under.

Last year I put in a lot of perennial foods and they have done well. The asparagus patch is ready to be clipped back, weeded and fertilized for next year. The blueberries and rhubarb I started last year are ready for some good fertilizer as well. The Strawberry patch needs to be weeded and fertilized. I planted 100 plants in 4 varieties and they are all doing well. 99 plants out of 100 survived, so this year I have many more. Yeah! I love strawberries.

I still have a few rows of carrots that haven't been picked, and some HOT HOT peppers need to be picked as well. Looks like those plants are still going strong with some new peppers coming in. My late plantings of peas never did come on so it may have still been too hot when I planted them. Too bad, because I love peas fresh from the garden.

Maybe there will be a nice day this week when I can get out there. But I will take a nice hard rain any day of the week.
