How Many HUD Homes Sell Every Week?

Earlier this week I attended the Five Star Conference, a national meeting of the Default Servicing Industry. This industry brings together everyone that deals with foreclosures - banks, asset managers, appraisers and REO listing agents.

One of the keynote speakers was former first lady Laura Bush - quite a treat to hear her in person.

The founder and CEO of RE/MAX, Dave Liniger, was another key note speakers. He made the following predictions:

  • We are half way through the mortgage crisis. It started in 2007, so we have another 3 years to sell all of the homes that are affected by foreclosure.
  • Once we make it through the crisis there will have another housing boom. It will be fueled by a shift in demographics, as the children of baby boomers buy more homes and the US population continues to grow.

What does this mean for you?

Plan ahead! If you buy Columbus houses now, while they are still undervalued, and hold it for 3 to 5 years, you have a good chance of significant appreciation.

Most listings on today's HUD homes map are available to all bidders. You'll find HUD houses in most suburbs and you can get them at great discounts.

The new asset managers did not publish any new HUD listings, yet. However, I expect that the current HUD homes inventory will shrink at a rate of 30 homes a week, possibly faster as investors buy before the new guidelines take effect on October 13.
