How far the mighty are slipping.  Yahoo became the most popular real estate site in August.  They displaced Realtor.com from their number 1 position according to data collected by Web metrics firm Experian Hitwise.  I have no idea who Experian Hitwise might be.  I will do a Google search on them.

These numbers are interesting, I think.  Yahoo moved into second place in May when it captured an estimated 4.3% of traffic in the real estate category compared to Realtor.com's 6.2%.  In August it was 5.9% Yahoo and Realtor.com had 5.74% traffic. It looks like this is going to be a "two horse race".

Yahoo and Zillow recently entered into a partnership in which Zillow will provide listings to both sites.  If you add Yahoo and Zillow together they would claim 10.1% of the real estate traffic.

Realtor.com operator Move Inc. is the official site of the National Association of Realtors.  They claim to have the most comprehensive and up to date set of listings.

What does this mean to Realtors?  The answer is not conclusive.  Its seems that we have to advertise in both camps.  The group who becomes more relevant to the success of the real estate community will draw the bigger share of our advertising dollars.

The Realtors with their million plus members are not controlling the Internet traffic in a dominating way.  Who would have thought this could happen three years ago?  Complacency has been the death knell for a lot of organizations and business.  NAR has a great history of property rights, political action, code of ethics, etc.  Time will tell what will be.

Webster, very interesting news. I will keep an eye on those stats & maybe use it for ammunition when Realtor.com comes knocking for a renewal fee.

I'm glad to see this!  I'm sick of Realtor.com and how much they try and charge us for next to nothing in leads that I've seen.  I've been moving more towards Zillow and looks like I'll keep going in that direction.

Wow.  It seems that NAR better start becoming more relevant to the local Realtor.  Realtor.com is their public image.  This image is being tarnished by more aggressive sites.

How do you really feel Kathleen?:)

Conrad,

I'm with Kathleen. I stopped advertising on Realtor.com and have switched to Zillow. Great post! Anxious to see more responses.
