I woke up this morning expecting to leave the house by 6:00 A.M. We had a trip planned to spend the next few days on South Padre Island. We rose at 5:30 A..M. and packed the car. Stryker (our Dutch Shepherd) was going with us, she loves the beach. Chloe was no where to be found. We were not taking her. She would have turned 21 in October. That's pretty old in cat years. We had made arrangements for her care in our absence. You don't take a 20 year old cat many places. My husband disappeared for a few minutes and then came into the room and said; "Chloe's gone!" Where did she go? ...and then I realized that he meant, she was dead. She died in the middle of the night without so much as a whimper. No last minute licks or cuddles. I began to cry.... We delayed the trip for a few hours to attend to and say goodbye to our beloved baby. Several months before we had picked out her final resting place and that is where we put her. It was a quiet trip to South Padre and I've had time to reflect on it. Really, I miss her, but she didn't suffer. She went in her sleep and until an hour or so before she was happily lying on the bed watching TV. She was able to walk and eat up to the very end. I'm sadl but I couldn't have asked for an easier ending for her. Rest in Pease, Chloe Sunsetta Pease. I love you forever.
Carol, my heart goes out to you in your time of loss. Yet you have rationalized it quite nicely and understand it's nature taking it's course. Hopefully, you will be able to look back on the past with fondness rather than grief.
Carol: I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my baby Zephyr six weeks ago. He was 16 1/2 and had was diagnosed with cancer 11 months earlier. The vet was surprised he made it so long and did so well during the last year of his life. I miss him everyday. Carrie
Dear Carol, I'm ever so sorry about your Chloe - as a beloved cat lover here, I know the pain and hurt losing a feline friend. I've had the joy of raising 5, the longest was Patches who got up to 19. So fortunate that she went during sleep, did not suffer or have an illness. Rest in Peace, Chloe, and have fun on your way over the rainbow bridge.
Vickie:
We have been anticipating it for over 3 years. She had chronic kidney failure and was on a prescription diet. She seemed like the Eveready bunny and just kept on going right up to the end.
Hi Carol~ So sorry to hear about you losing your cat. I hope you have a nice vacation!
hi Carol, soooooooooo sorry to hear about Chloe. As a fellow animal lover I know how you feel, eventually we're left with the amazing memories our furry babies gave us.
So sorry for your loss. Your kitty kat will live on forever in your memories.
Carrie:
I'm a cat person and Chloe came to me via marriage. She was my husband's cat when we met 13 years ago. I've been recovering from shoulder surgery and she seemed to know that I was in pain. Every day she came and sat with me in my recliner. (I've not been able to sleep in bed since early August.
I'm sorry for your loss, too. That's a really cute picture of your baby, Zephyr. He looks very content.
Carla:
The "rainbow bridge!" That's a wonderful way of putting it into words. I'm very grateful that she went in her sleep. I only wish I could have said goodbye.
Vickie:
It's raining here in South Padre, but I just saw a rainbow and it made me smile. I plan to enjoy myself, but right now I'm sitting on the bed and crying as I write this. I miss her.

Brad just wrote a blog about Rainbow Bridge...When my first English Springer Spaniel went to heaven, a friend sent me the link to Rainbow Bridge and it really helped.
So sorry to hear about this -- losing a wonderful pet is so sad -- all the best to you and your family.
Our prayers are with you ... I know how difficult it is to lose a loved one.
I'm sorry for your loss. 20 is quite a milestone for a cat. I have 3 that are all right around 10 years old.
Carol - Sorry for your lost, I too lost my cat when she was 20 and it was hard for along time, but now I reflect on all the great times we shared.
Carol so sorry for your loss, we lost Mr Bond about six years ago and since then we have a total of three, the void is still there. He used to sit in my Mailer Box we miss him a lot. He must have met Cloe at Rainbow Bridge and showed her around the place. She is in a good place now.
