'Should we buy a townhouse or a single house ?'
When I work with first time buyers they are not sure what they are looking for . Most of them would like a new or newer single home in great school district . Ofcourse they have to look at homes they can afford. For the price they can either buy new or newer townhouse or olde single house and that is where they get confused.
I tell them it should be their personal decision and it depends on what is important to them. Many of the older homes may have new roof, heater , carpets etc and may be in good condition and they would be able to get their own private yard and may not have restrictions of home owner associations, though in some communities they have home owner associations in developments with single homes.
In newer townhome they have more modern features that were not common 50 years ago , like two story foyer and walk- in closets and soaking tubs.
If they buy brand new they get to pick colors and customize. I show them all homes in their price range a few times till they decide what they want and then once they decide on type of home, I show them more homes . It is a difficult decision and only the buyers can determine what suits their needs.
