We have a large City Council meeting tonight here in Jacksonville, FL, where the council will vote on property tax rates for the Beaches and Baldwin areas, a topic that requires 14 votes for approval.
The next bill sets the Jacksonville millage rate, and the fourth bill is the city budget. These two require a 10 vote majority for passage.
Council members have 8 minutes to speak, and citizens can speak for three minutes each during the combined public hearing.
The Team Taxpayer Tail Gate party will feature "budget buster baloney sandwiches" and free Kool Aid for city administrators and City Council members.
This will be a City Council meeting to remember, as the council members are trynig to balance city spending needs, rising health-care and pension costs, and the very unpopular millage rate increase. Complicating things even more is that 17 of the 18 council members are either up for re-election, or are running for another city office in the Spring.
I will post results tomorrow - have a great day!
