The Importance of a Home Office

Reblogger Christian Heide
Real Estate Agent with Fitkova Realty Group

I routinely work with clients who favor a designated home office space.  Also a great article on how fads change with the times and perhaps one day a home office won't be necesery as many people are turning to paperless and laptops!

Trends and fads come and go, especially in real estate.  I remember when buyers just had to have a bay window SOMEWHERE in the house.  Over the past few years, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances have been must-haves.  Other fads that faded or never really caught on were "morning rooms", which I felt were just additional kitchen space or a mini-dining room.  I've never really seen much demand for a central vaccuum system either.  It would be nice to have but not a dealbreaker by any means.

Nowadays with the advent of the internet and being able to perform a lot of jobs from home, an office is an absolute must-have for a lot of people.  Offices are needed in homes now for the adults who are going back to school online in ever increasing numbers as well as for the corporate professional who occassionally works from home.  For those people who work from home full-time, their office is their very livelihood.  The home office is definitely not a fad that will be going away anytime soon.

As the market rebounds, new home builders as well as renovation specialists need to consider the importance of the home office.  We all know that kitchens and bathrooms sell homes but a functional home office space is very high on the list.  From  T1 and cable outlets to entire home internet connectivity, these are going to be the highly sought after amenities that will make or break a sale.

I definitely agree with you.. Since I have a home office (which I had to convert my living room into an office with 3 agents coming in and out) I could LOVE to see a finished basement set up for an office. That way you have an area separate from your personal/family space. I have found more clients like that as well.
